Why do people put square lights on JTs (or any wrangler minus the YJ)?

I"m talking solely appearance. I think round lights look better on the bumper or bull bar. But I also like square lights on the cowl. I think it picks up off the squareness of the front windshield.

Yeah I went square on ditch lights. Funny I always thought round as ditch lights look a little off on the JT as I think square matches lines around windshield. I do prefer round on bumper lights near the headlights though. I'm really not passionate about it one way or the other though. Like you said "you do you".

I applaud your curiosity @NC_Overland. I also agree with your original post where you said “your Jeep, you do you” ?.

For me, it all started when I first got my JT and wanted to break up a solid red truck with some black accents. One being a light mount for the cowl. I found that with relative ease.

Didn’t make much sense (to me anyway) to add the mount and not (my first introduction to the Jeep accessory rabbit hole):
A: add lights to the mount
B: give my factory Aux switches a reason to exist

Not wanting to invest too much in a lighting project before other more impactful upgrades, I found some square cowl lights on the cheep from eBay.

I recently went down the path of changing out the plastic front bumper…. Along with that (deeper down the hole I fall), decided I wanted to add a 14” light bar on the new bumper which will (I believe) tie together the boxiness(?) of the light bar, cowl lights (that I have since upgraded but are still square) and windshield from the front of the truck.

My $0.02.
And I appreciate the informative response. That makes sense.

I do agree with the look of round lights. Although I have seen plenty of square light set ups that I liked. Personally, I wanted mine to keep an old school look.

I agree with round lights. I had just put these on my JK shortly before I sold it and bought the Gladiator. So I took them off, ordered the bull bar and mounts to re-use them on the JT.

Sorry about the orientation

I definitely agree about the bumper part.

I hate it when it does the pic side ways. I figured out if you even slightly crop the pic it fixes it.

RR Arcus bumper?

What is the diameter of those lights?

Have a similar setup in mind -- winch and round driving lights are sitting in the garage, and bumper shipped on 1/3. Did you have to drill holes above the winch plate to mount them?

Only other thought I had was forgoing the override bar and using those mount points -- pushing the lights out a little further.

I’ll preface this by saying, your Jeep, you do you, but I just don’t get it. Is it price? Availability? Are there more small square lights added than round? Totally a personal preference and I’m not hating. I just have never thought it looks right. They have round headlights and fog lights and there isn’t one square line on them minus their brick like shape.

Just curious, don’t take it too seriously if you have added square lights. It’s just a thought that’s always on my mind when I see Gladiators that I like with square lights added.
Ever see an XJ? How Bout a YJ? Ok, how about a zj?

WTH? In the first post I mentioned the YJ and I said the JT and Wranglers. Someone moved my post to the lighting section and cut some of it out.

edit: I mentioned it in the title.

yes it is the Arcus bumper with override bar. The lights are Auxbeam 7”, link below.

Auxbeam 2Pcs 7" Round LED Driving Lights-80W LED Off-Road Light Bar, Offroad Vehicle Work Lights, 8000lm Combo Beams for Truck ATV UTV Golf Cart Lighting Pickup https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01EHKPW6K/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_E2ZTX83YP3N6ESS13C40

I mounted them using a RR winch mount plate. So I didn’t drill any holes. Everything was bolt and play.

Also, I’ve heard a country song or two mention KC Lights, but not a single lyric about “square LED’s” ?
