Gladiator can handle the weight most definitely across all trims

Max Tow package gives you 765 lbs. of tongue weight capacity. You could probably get away with using that on a Max Tow JT.

All other JTs could possibly be overloaded if you used that accessory and then put a motorcycle on it. How much does the bike weigh? 400 lbs? What about that hitch accessory? Around 50 lbs?

Thanks for the responses.

That's about right. Sportbikes are around 400-500lbs and the hauler itself is about 75-100lbs.

From what I understand, a gladiator with a manual transmission has lower towing capacity. This probably wouldn't work if I go with a manual transmission, right?

This isn't so much about tow ratings. Well I does but doesn't. This load is going to be completely supported by the hitch but no other supporting axle. That being said you want to know what the maximum tongue weight the truck is capable of supporting. All Gladiators can handle this weight say in the bed as payload. Supporting it of the hitch itself is different as it's cantilevered off the back of the truck. I'm think I seen some spec sheet that listed the max tongue weight I want to say it was 500lbs but I could be wrong.

I will say with my four wheels and tires and my factory lift kit it hauled fine for 10 hours but was mooshy in the rear suspension on bridges and such.

The owners manual says that all non-Max Towing models have a 400 lb. maximum payload. So technically you'd be at maximum capacity or just barely above with a motorcycle being carried on the hitch. But I suppose it depends on the specific bike.

Sorry for bumping this 2 month old thread, but wouldn't it be easier to just get a ramp and put the motorcycle in the bed? The tailgate payload is more than enough to handle the weight of the bike and there are strap down points at all 4 corners already

If you get a max tow sport s or a rubicon with the tow package you get a class 4 hitch. That’s perfectly fine for a sport bike riding on it

I think all of them come with a class IV hitch if ordered with a tow package - they all have the same hitch. Max tow adds upgraded cooling, alternator and rubicon axles and gearing. That won't affect the amount the hitch can handle, so should be ok on any of them with the tow package provided you don't exceed gvwr - which can be under 1100lbs on an Overlander.

Another revival of an old thread, but I have this ramp (bought it for my Ram 1500), but have not tried it on the JT yet as it is winter here in NH.

I will post pictures in another couple of months with it on.

Those that think you should just use the bed probably have not loaded a tall 500+ lb streetbike onto a truck.

You can walk it up, with the risk of it falling away from you and you need to use the motor if loading solo.

Riding it in is a one shot, don't stop ordeal because your feet will be 1-2 feet off the ground when you ride through the transition onto the ramp.

Good luck if the tire looses grip or the ramp angle won't clear the bike all the way into the bed.

Using the hitch makes the load height lower and it is easier to walk it up using the motor (I never have anybody around to help).

I also built another ramp to walk up, making it fairly easy (but still nerve racking).

I would suggest not getting too hung up on what tongue weight is approved for towing.

As mentioned above, the hitch can handle the weight and if the truck can be driven with 500 lbs. on the tailgate, it can handle 500 lbs mounted in the same space.

We shall see how she does!

Any update on if anyone has used this trailer hitch on the gladiator? I'm in the same situation: JT rubicon with tow package, mopar lift, 400 lb motorcycle and the hitch is about 100 lbs. Total weight will not exceed 550 lbs. I really want to go with this set up as these types of ramps are much easier to load but worried about exceeding tongue weight and what problems might come with that.

I finally used it last weekend, about 70 miles on varied surfaces - no problems

Nice looking Z! I want one of them but the wife would never let me hear the end of it. (5 bikes in the shed now) So how does it go? My first Kawi was a 400cc two stroke triple in '75, then a GPz550 "81 and a GPz 1100. Also 81.
