So is the AEV an aftermarket bumper, or just a winch plate you put on over your stock bumper?

Not sure where you came up with your weight comparison. The AEV bumper weighs 118lbs. My redrock 4x4 bumper weighs 80lbs. The AEV bumper costs $2200, my lighter bumper with no plastic cost $350. I'll put it up against the AEV for strength any day, and personally I think it looks better.

Yeah, the AEV is definitely expensive. Yours is the stubby, my AEV is the full width. And different strokes for different folks! We are all individuals!

Most definitely, just pointing out it's not really all that light as far as front bumpers go. I doubt adding wings to make my stubby a full width would add that 40lbs to it. I think the wings off the stock steel bumper only weighed 17lbs if I remember correctly.

I have a Sport S with the plastic bumper and chose to go with a Rock Hard winch plate. I already had a Smittybuilt 10,000 lb winch From my prior JK. I also tow behind my motor home and had to add a base plate. Installing the winch plate on a winch ready bumper should be easy…
It’s a one beer project……

Certainly possible. I wasn't trying to imply that the AEV was lighter, I was saying that for it's weight it is stronger than other steel bumpers. Sorry if I wasn't clear on that.

I have the factory steel front bumper and the aux switches on the dash. I checked Mopar pricing for mounting plates.. HOLY COW! Dealer wanted 10 hours labor to install and quote with winch was $4100, no thank you... I am old school so I want a Warn winch but like the idea of synthetic rope. I appreciate your feedback, ideas, and pictures. Thank you.

I wanted old school 8274 winch, faster, longer rope, better looking. Bought bracket off ebay, added brackets to bolt onto existing bumper bolts. Used cutoff wheel to modify bumper and this is what you get!

I got a warn Xeon 10 (wire) because of I was concerned with longevity in my area due to heat and light exposure got a plate for around 230. I don’t like the look of the roller fairleads, so I got a Warn Iron fairlead compatible with wire for a cleaner look. I am in Texas, so I had to get a 20$ license plate relocation kit. I haven’t installed yet, but it will probably take a few hours. The total is around 700. It would have been 1k with synth rope. I have aux buttons, but I read it causes problems with winches in it isn’t done just right. My winch came with a wireless remote, so might save the button for something else.

Seriously. 10 hours is offensive. I did it in I’d say three or so with Harbor Freight tools and a smile.
