Dumb question that I can almost predict the answer to.

This is my first synthetic line so I just hooked it to my front shackle like I'd do with a steel wire winch. Should I be using a winch hook isolator or a line protector? Feels like this end here is going to get the shit beat out of it.

seems like with the isolator I can suck up that last bit of line so it's protected inside the bumper.

You could just pick up another hook that pulls flat to the fairlead. There a quite a few options for that in various price brackets.

Mine is hooked to the shackle, but it has a line protector. UV light is what you really want protection from with the synthetic line.

There are a lot of options I went with the Factorr 55 flat link with a line protector, which is the above photo with an aluminum guard to protect the line from UV and road debris. I went as far as wrapping the line around the end in quality electric tape before putting the flat link on,to keep sun off the sides also. The Factor 55 is not a cheap option there are others and there are also some hooks that go into the Fairlead.
Also I am of tthe school of thought that shackles should be in truck locked and protected , so ready to go when using…..Jack

Do those Factor 55 flatlinks work with the fairlead I've got? those don't necessarily look like standard fairleads you're running.

Also, WTF?? How did you get that winch inside the plastic bumper???

It will work with your Fairlead , I liked it as it covered a lot has rubber on it to hold it tight, but if I was doing it again I might get the next level up that has a larger hole so you can slide a shackle through it and attach directly to someone’s shackle point, mine needs two shackles to do that. But I have used it once since installing it and not a big deal . There are a bunch of us that slipped winches into the plastic bumper the threads are out there, mine is a short drum Warn and my Fairlead 55 short drum model. My added weight to front is about 73 lbs. with no sag.Their stuff is not cheap but it is about the quality. Search and look Warn, Rugged Ridge, Harbor Freight just about everyone has an option and most are cheaper then Factor 55. I don’t do cheap where it matters Crosby shackles, freaking expensive Warn winch and Factor 55 flat link and soft shackles.

I'm taking your advice but not exactly. Going to go with the ProLink-E. Slightly different style but same fundamental purpose. Tucks in good, gives me good versatility, I'll have this cute little nub sticking out front. Thanks all!

Good thing is the line is protected. Bad thing is I can’t see the line.

My goal was to get all the metal out of mine so I went with a Yankum fairlead. It protects the line and if it ever gets messed up, it's a simple brummel splice to repair.
