Can anyone explain the physical differences of these two winch plates?

In the pictures they look the same, and traditionally, a change in letter at the end indicates the later part (AC) superseded the earlier part (AB) for some reason. Could be a s simple as changing the bolts in the kit, or even who supplies it.

Just as a heads up, the Mopar kit also requires a filler plate for the bumper where the fairlead mounts as it's not included in the kit. Unless the dealer is giving it to you for free or heavy discount, most of the other winch plates are cheaper and include all the needed pieces.

Do you have a part number for that filler plate?

Or are you talking about these:
  • Adapter plate for Centered winch opening - P/N 82215528AB
  • Off-center winch opening - P/N 82215527AB

Those are the ones, you'll just need to pick the one for your winch based on centered or offset.

An advantage of the factory plate is it doesn’t space the bumper out further as some do, so the factory skid plate has no bolt alignment issues.

Assuming every bumper varies if you need to get the winch mounting plate or not, but in the event the chosen bumper doesn't include one, you will need one of the two correct?

Sorry I’m not quite following
. what I was trying to point out is, with the factory steel bumper, and adding a required winch plate, the Mopar plate doesn’t shim the bumper out further, which allows for easier reinstallation of the factory Jeep skid plate.

Ahh ok with the factory steel bumper, I was thinking you need the OEM plate to mount up a winch in general if one wasn't provided with an aftermarket bumper. All good
