So coming from a long line of Jeep owning... here's my experiences.

It really IS a Jeep thing. The flat, almost vertical windshields break easier than any other vehicle. Get glass coverage.

Insurance depends on the state as well as the provider. Besides the should be obvious variations in deductible vs policy cost, when I lived in CT, the state apparently required insurance companies to cover glass. When I moved to NH it was not automatic (found out the hard way I no longer had coverage and paid for the first one in NH out of pocket), and you have to opt in and pick a deductible level. (Fun fact, auto insurance is technically not required here at all, but it's so cheap it's dumb not to. Half the cost as CT was, for better coverage)

Every glass policy I've ever had only paid for "OEM spec" aftermarket replacement glass. If you wanted Mopar branded glass with the little Jeep in the corner, you had to pay the difference. Typically about $400 more. UNLESS Mopar glass was all that was available (got that once, because it was a new model Wrangler, and no aftermarket options yet). That said, I've never noticed any difference in the quality replacement Safelite used, and you can order the decal for a few bucks online. If you get it before the install, ask the installer if you can put the decal on before the install, it's a lot easier.

If you use Safelite, they typically ask if you want the Jeep logo in the corner or not. If you say yes, that triggers the higher cost Mopar replacement glass. Also, if you are paying out of pocket, google around a bit, Safelite always has huge discount codes for first time customers if you set everything up online. If you have already done the online quote with them, you may have to use a different email address and clear your browser cache to get the discount to work. They typically also offer discounts if you can be a bit flexible with the install time if you are having them come to you vs taking to their shop.

Maybe I just hit too many deer in my life... windshield replacement has never cost me more then a $100 to replace depending on what insurance company I had. But I always carried comp because well I hit a deer every few years it seems. ;)

Progressive will tag you for windshield claims now... I was shopping around for insurance and they wouldn't take me since I had a few windshield repairs. Never had any other claims only repairs. I have Allstate and my agent says they are now looking at comprehensive claims and pricing accordingly..... I hate insurance companies!
Same for me in Michigan.

They don't care if it wasn't your fault. They just want insureds with no claims.

Each treats it a bit differently. Repairs cost them money, too and when you said you had "a few" - they may have sensed a pattern or it added up, or the losses in that area were high.
That's part of the conversation I had with my agent - the area or region matters. Where there's few claims like that, they'll absorb it, but in the case of house insurance, when there's dozens of tornados, and massive payouts, that region will see increases.
Most insurance companies go through re-insurers. They place themselves out there sort of like a local bank does for loans. Their insurance load is bought up by another outfit. If that insurance company has good assets, good history, etc. - then they are taken up by a reinsurer. Few actually do it all themselves. Loans are sold to other companies, so is insurance.
The issue with some companies in places like CA - no reinsurer wanted to pick up those contracts! So the companies had to pull out.
Our company has a good balance sheet, and good history, so they were covered by the reinsurer. .

Here they put in what you had, based on your VIN. Never was even asked on either of mine. It went right back to the OEM glass. But then - comp covered it minus my deductible so I never saw the total bill.
I asked on the second one - what will it go back with, and they said "if it's available, it will go back to original glass"

I called my insurance agent and asked if windshields were covered. Was told yes, but your deductible was almost as much as new glass. I lowered my deductible and my rate only went up $35 per year and now it’s covered. Figured that’s cheap insurance for glass now.

Any such thing? Cracked windshield 2022 Gladiator Max Tow Sport. My windshield finally cracked, called progressive ins and I’m told will cost over $800 from Safelite. Anyone know where to buy windshield at decent price? Thanks all
My wife cracked the windshield in 2 spots on my Gladiator, while we were in Florida. We found a guy that was very reasonable the only thing the glass didn't have was the Jeep stickers in the corner. It was around half that price .

I have several vehicles insured with them and over the years all but my Corvette has had chips repaired and I've had two windshields replaced that were not repairable. That is over a fairly long period of years (10 or so). My FJ Cruiser, much like a Jeep has an extremely vertical windshield and it got hammered. That was a pricey replacement due to having to replace the painted trim above the windshield anytime it's replaced. My F-250 had one replaced after it had been repaired several times and deemed not safe to repair any longer. Sadly, they just keep going up and base it upon comp claims. I've never had a claim for my three motorcycles, RZR or either of my homes they have insured, but that's besides the point as far as they are concerned....

I have the glass add-on with my policy. If I remember correctly, it's about $50/year. Free replacement...thankfully since I'm on my 3rd windshield.

I've been married for 22 years. If you can believe this, we haven't had a claim once in our 22 years! And yes, we are still running the OE windshields in our 2015, 2020, and 2023 vehicles. With that said, I'll eventually want a new windshield in our 2015 Ram. It's starting to get pitted and hard to see out of when the sun is low.

Pretty impressive! I’m in Texas and their favorite road surface is chip Seal. I think they get subsidized by the glass companies! On my company F250 when I was still in business I had two broken and replaced in one week! They even did chip seal on I30 at one time. This is where my truck took the beating…

We call that tar and chip. Michigan loves that crap. They sometimes try to patch potholes with it.

Geico - $50 co-pay per glass claim, no questions asked.
Had the 5th windshield replaced two weeks ago thru Safelite. Never a problem with getting OEM either.

I have always paid for glass coverage as part of my auto insurance policy for my Wranglers and Gladiator. Pays for itself with the first replacement. Replacements here in MA are done by Safelite.
