Windshield Recalibration Problem

This is my 5th windshield I think. The same local private shop has replaced each one, with no previous issues doing the recalibration. This time, I dropped it off with front soft doors on, so essentially no front doors electrically. They couldn’t even get their canner to sync with the Jeep without the engine running, as opposed to “run” position with out engine running. Does anyone know if calibration requires doors to be installed? I’m trying to rule that out, or not, before looking elsewhere. I put the doors back on, but can’t test it without going back to the glass shop, which I will as soon as my schedule allows. I thought I’d throw out the question in case anyone knows. Thanks!

On a related note, does anyone know how to DIY calibrate after a replacement? I’m big on self-sufficiency, maybe to an extreme.

I don't know, but my guess is it requires the system to be intact to do the calibration, which means doors on and harnesses connected.

DIY calibration may be possible, but it would require purchasing the necessary equipment to do so. Not exactly a practical option, since the cost of calibration is usually included in the windshield replacement, and there's no need for it otherwise.

I talked to a glass dealer who has done many of these and they don’t usually calibrate. They say to not disconnect power from the the radar/camera box during windshield replacement and it will retain the cal and work fine.

And it was equipped on every MOJAVE and Rubicon in my area. And they used that to justify 68-72k for said trucks. Just to smack a tailight on a branch or rock on the first tight trail. No thanks. East coast trails are way to tight for that lol. Anyway, hope you find a solution.

No offense, but unless you’ve experienced the system, don’t knock it. It works extremely well, and absolutely prevents accidents. Before you go on a rant about only bad drivers getting anything from advanced safety, it’s simply not true. These systems are faster than people. I had a UPS truck stop short when I was towing on Monday, the forward collision system prevented me from hitting it. I was on the brakes, but it would have been close without it.

I I'm not here to throw shade on Drivers who use it. Its on every other vehicle I own. But for a truck that I'll beat up on the trail and seeing what sensor calibration cost. It just doesn't make sense in my case. Plus i wasn't willing to risk paying that much money for a system I may hate with how it functions. My mini is almost unnoticeable. I forget its there and I wish all were like that. Just a guardian for the oh shit moments. My Aunt's Toyota Highlander on the other hand, That system can fuck right off to hell. It actively tries to kill, no joke. It randomly decides that the lane marker line has change 20 ft over to right and will send you careening across 3 lanes of traffic to keep you "lane assited". If your on a motorcycle none of the sensors will pick you up. But for some reason if you hit a cicada that engages emergency braking. I hate that car. And I didn't wanna risk my "offroad toy" being possible plagued the same way. I think these systems definitely have a place and save lives. I shudder to think of how much more dangerous it would be for a lot of my family if they drove cars without those systems. I can never convince my wife, mom, or siblings to get off thier damn phones while driving, or to buckle their seatbelts, etc. And they say I'm reckless cus i ride. SMH.

Very true. Some cars’ systems are horrible. For what it’s worth, this one works very well, it sounds similar to your mini. It didn’t affect my price point like it sounds like it did with you. My loaded rubicon was 52k, which was the most expensive vehicle I’ve ever purchased. I’m definitely not discounting a 52k purchase. That’s a lot of cash. I can’t believe what they cost in 2024.

No real prerequisites except the angle check of the module for the Jeep DASM. Doors off shouldn’t open the circuit but I’ll try to look through the diagrams. Any calibration device you use will need North American Autoauth credentials to get through the security gateway unless someone knows another method. Attached the service info since this is such a common theme.

To me, the Collision avoidance system works seamlessly in my Rubicon. Saved my bacon once and that sold me. Similar to Wild Hobo, car pulled out without looking (driver texting) and although I reacted the truck was faster. No way I would have avoided it.

I also wouldn't have bought a truck with all that crap, I specifically bought the Grand Cherokee without that crap. However, my JT was used, had all the things I wanted even though it had things I didn't, it was priced right and barely used. I have found that I really like the ACC so it's going to be another in the need list if I buy another new vehicle.

The update is that it’s confirmed that the recalibration worked fine, simply by putting the front doors back on. Good to know for the future. I won’t have anyone do anything without all doors in place. But windshield shops are the only shops that touch my jeep anyway.

Re calibrate the windshield,,, good Lord. The 392 Wrangler has a windshield with the radio antenna in it along with all the other stuff . That must be a real $$$ to replace on a windshield that is the most broken. I'll pass.

I don’t know why people care so much about windshield replacements. Insurance covers it. So unless your comprehensive deductible is super high, it doesn’t matter what your glass cost is. Glass only claims don’t hurt your premiums.
