I quit using the wireless carplay dongle since the USB ports in the Jeep seem to not sleep if there is a device connected to it. It drains the batteries, which leads to AUX battery failures over time.

There is a fix to make the usb port only active when the key is on. Jumping F11 to 53 underhood fixes that issue.

My owners manual says they stay on for an hour after shutdown.

I picked up a Superior Tech 5.0 unit on sale a while back for something like $70, and it seems to connect and work about 90% of the time. It will freeze once in a while as well... The one thing I notice is the incoming call volume is MUCH louder, which is a very nice perk. The factory U-Connect calls are very very quiet, even with the call volume (yes I'm aware there are 3 separate volume settings) all the way cranked up. When going through Carplay, I can have the call volume at roughly 50% and it's great even at freeway speeds.

I have the Motorola MA1 but never use it
That's the one I bought. I was worried about getting it setup, but I simply plugged it into the USB port in the console and paired my (Android) phone with it.....works great

So, I just received a CarlinKit 5.0 2 air

My question is… On the phone, do I have to “Forget Device” for its connection to the Jeep?!?

I’m also not understanding the means to update the adapter.

I am usually just fine doing this stuff, but the instructions are minimal and there is no mention of removing the Jeep connectivity from the phone before using the wireless adapter. It does not help, that the instructions are written SO SMALL!

iPhone 14Pro here.

When I first tried an Ottocast in my Jeep it rarely worked well. My biggest complaint wasn’t the connection problem although about half the time it didn’t connect. My gripe was about the sound quality. There were a lot of random popping noises while playing songs stored on my iphone. I updated it like the instructions recommended but it didn’t help so after a few weeks I disconnected it. Back in April I sent an email to them and they replied with a link to beta firmware. Since then it has sounded great and there are far fewer connection problems. I can’t say it will work for everyone but it helped mine enough that I use it again.
I bought this one and so far it has worked quite well. I can hear no sound quality difference between it and when it's wired...

The first time I connected an adapter in the JT I had to forget the Jeep under Bluetooth settings on my iphone to get it to connect. After getting it setup, I unplugged the adapter and reconnected to the Jeep. Since then, my phone connects to the adapter as long as it is on and ignores the Jeep. If I disconnect the adapter, the phone connects to the JT automatically. My adapter is an Ottocast rather than a CarlinKit but that is how mine works.

I installed a Rimoody Adapter (weird Chinese brands on Amazon), https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C6WZWK9Q?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details, and it paired quickly and seems to work fine. I think I paid $35. Seems to be out of stock but in case it comes back in stock, I can say I like it. Only one time hiccup but I'm blaming it on AT&T since the signal has been weak for the last month and Pandora wouldn't load. The only thing I'm noticing is that the screen goes to sleep mode while playing music and that never happened before the adapter. One tap on the screen fixes that.

I use one and most of the time it works well. My main frustration is the frequency I have to reconnect the iPhone to the blue tooth dongle, but still better than dealing with cables.

Sometimes I have to forget the device and re-pair.

I have red led lights connected to the back seat ports. They only come on with the engine running and shut off immediately when the car is off.

I purchased these for mine and my wife's Jeep and they work great. It only took a couple times not remembering to flip the switch to on or off and now it is just part of the routine when in getting in or out of the car. Paired it with the wireless carplay adapter and never had an issue once I actually read the manual and found out the phone was not supposed to be paired to UConnect bluetooth. Once I unpaired the phone from the uconnect it resolved all the issues with the wireless carplay.
