Reread what you wrote. I believe the controller regulates that, hence the "automatically detects 12/24v system".So again I'm going to guess that the 40a MPPT controller is going to limit the voltage going into the batteries? If reading their website correctly.
When I hook my system with my RichSolar 20a mppt controller, I was well over 24v, probably closer to 40v from my 2 panels in series. Had no problem at all.
