I am in odd situation. About a month ago I purchased a 2020 JT Rubicon MT, with 1500 miles on it. But not knowing it was imported from Canada, it turns out it has no factory warranty and is not eligible for extended. I have spoken to FCA America, and they are no help, spoke to my local dealer and they are unable to find anyone who will warranty it either.

Right now I have two options, return it, or keep it, and the dealership I purchased it from has offered to pay for the work on the Steering box TSB. And then I own any further repairs.

I would say I got a good price, if is had the remainder of the factory warranty.
Seeing it still has the open TSB on the Steering Box and all of the issues reported in this forum, I ask, would you purchase this setup without an existing and no chance for an extended warranty?

Well I hata nice they'll take care of the TSB for you. When you say you can return it, that dealer will buy it back at what you paid? Also did they not tell you about not having even a factory warranty until after you purchased?

And maybe you are not eligible for the Mopar warranty, but I would imagine a 3rd party company would warranty you?

I agree with @midironman , you should return it if you can. Not only will you have to deal with any issues that come up under your ownership, you'll have to disclose that it's a gray market vehicle when you trade or sell. Not worth a "good price" deal in my mind.

Take the offer and Return it, even if you lose a little on the deal. They should be willing to work with you, since their states Consumer Protection Division would likely be quite interested in your particular situation.

I would only consider keeping it if you live reasonably close to a Canadian Jeep Dealer that you can get to service it for you.

It depends...given some of the problems others have been having with the MT price would be a huge factor. Inquiring minds want to know. How much did you pay for it? Correct me if I'm wrong but but I don't think not having a warranty would effect a TSB or recall. Why can't a truck sold in Canada resold to an American not be warrantied? I don't get it. There's gotta be something OP can do.

You possibly might be able to trade it in and get more than what you paid for it as the used market is insane right now.

Take it back unless they gave it to you for a crazy low price

The selling dealership should be able to offer a third party warranty.
Exclusionary coverage will cover anything not specifically listed in the contract.
Since the Jeep may only have a bit more than a year left on the factory warranty anyway, this may be a good alternative.

In Port Huron MI, many of the dealerships deal in Canadian imports and their business is very good, you may not be able to get taxes back and your looking at a very low mileage vehicle…rumors are if you are vaccinated you’ll be able to crossbthe border in July…

100% return it. You won't be able to get recalls done in the future and extended service contracts don't cover them.

Thanks all, it is going back tomorrow. The dealer was super cool about it, and is taking it back as if I never owned it.

And just in case others find themselves in the same situation.

When imported improperly, not only does the initial factory warranty get voided, but so does the drive train and corrosion

According to my service advisor, recalls are covered, TSBs are not covered. I did not ask FCA about that, so if you are in the same situation, so call ahead of time.

Per FCA Canada, except in certain circumstances, they do not cover it once it leave the country and is registered in the states. Mine did not fit the criteria.

Per FCA US "For your information, exporting/Importing will DEACTIVATE and VOID standard warranty.
Exceptions: Certain fleet vehicles with warranty code of 595 or 596."

According to Carfax, mine was a Fleet Vehicle for about an hour and then was purchased by a dealer in MI. Once that happened the warranty was voided

Don't believe Carfax!

Carfax does not know if a vehicle is actually covered. From my experience and maybe others, they are simply estimating that a warranty is valid, based on age and miles.

This is what got me and the dealer. They shared the Carfax, showing me that there was a warranty, they, the sales people, didn't even know it was not covered. I am sure someone up the chain did, but now that they buy everything online, maybe not.

And FCA was very interested in that CF reported it as covered too, hopefully they will reach out to Carfax about fixing that flaw.

No one, I mean no one will provide an extended warranty on these imports. I would expect mopar to say no, but they spoke to all of their third party partners. They will not touch it.

So if you are buying and and see Canada in the purchase history. Do your due diligence before pulling the trigger.

Hope this all helps someone else,

A Former Gladiator Owner
