Interesting. I found this little gem at the bottom of the article from Motor1.com, written by Chris Okula on August 1, 2021 :

"Flagship products like the Jeep Wrangler are given priority of the scarce supply while more niche products like the Gladiator suffer. This doesn’t mean you won’t be able to find a new Gladiator on a dealer lot. Jeep will resume production when they need to build more Gladiators for customers once the current stock is depleted. Until then, Jeep will build what it can with the limited microchip supply."

Makes sense, the Wrangler prints money for Jeep. We saw several paper plate Wrangler 4xE's last weekend in San Francisco, and He!! they just jacked up the sticker on that model!

Follow the $$$.

I don't think the Gladiator sells that well. When I was shopping the local Jeep dealers have tons of Gladiators and only 1 or 2 oddball Wranglers.

In my area I didn't get the impression that they were really popular. When they first came out I was actually kind of scared because I wanted one eventually and didn't want them to fail/give up on the Gladiator. I know they doubled their 2019 sales in 2020 (I think it came out spring 2019 right?).

I know the pandemic (going outside) and the Bronco also has actually helped sell a lot more Wranglers and likely Gladiators too because of some of the new hype for off road generated by the Bronco. Ford was able to generate hype but not actually deliver vehicles so people have been choosing Jeep to satisfy their impulsive desire to have an off road vehicle (lol this includes me)

Also in general the midsize truck market is clearly growing and becoming more competitive (Ford Ranger & Maverick, updated Frontier, Hyundai Santa Cruz Pickup). This may give more exposure to the gladiator for those who didn't know about it, or may see how it compares when researching these other smaller trucks.

Maybe a your area thing or the dealer over ordered.

FCA stated at the Gladiator launch that production capacity and expected sale was around 75K a year. They sold 40K in a short 2019 production year and 77K in 2020 and have sold 48K year to date in 2021. So it is meeting expected business goals for Jeep.

Wrangler though, is almost a 3X sales leader over the Gladiator. Makes business sense that they would put Wrangler production priority over Gladiator.

Wranglers sell like crazy for Jeep, so this is a no-brainer. I kind of doubt Gladiators ever outsell Wranglers, but maybe America’s love for trucks will bring them closer. I wondered as soon as these came out of sales wouldn’t be higher if they were just called Wranglers and beds were treated as optional packages. Granted, it’s an entirely different vehicle; but I think I’d have been less sticker shocked looking at it that way. Ie: Wrangler Unlimited Sport S starting at $36,840, Sport S pickup -add $2500.

I dunno, I bought one anyway but did think they were way too expensive when first looking into them. And lots of people who see my truck mention how expensive Gladiators are. But anyone new truck shopping should know they’re almost all in the 50k range for a decent 4wd pickup.

The Toyota Tacoma is the #1 seller in the segment by a LONG margin (which is funny because it's objectively the worst truck in the entire segment in every category).

Then in second place you've got the Ford Ranger and Jeep Gladiator duking it out. In Q2 of this year, I think Ford moved 33k units and Jeep moved 30k units. It's a tight competition.

The Gladiator sells extremely well, and on one of the Wrangler Forums last week I went on a tangent about how if Jeep were hypothetically forced to cancel one model, they should cancel the Wrangler. The Gladiator does 99% of the things Wrangler does, but adds so much more capability and usefulness.

A good friend has a nice 2019 RAM 1500 with the 3.6L and the fancy bed. He said he about fainted when he saw how much Gladiators were in comparison. I get it, but I didn't want a car with a pickup bed, I wanted a Jeep with a pickup bed!

He still laughs at me, and then has to buy me lunch because I'm Jeep poor.

Friend owns a Land Rover dealership. They were doing the same with the Range Rover and Sport. Using the chips for them and halting production on the lower priced models

I doubt this applies the same way to custom orders for the Gladiator, they still need to keep the factories running, just if they are going to cut production they are better off cutting dealer Gladiators which may sit on the lots longer than dealer Wranglers. Either way they know it's essentially a 100% sale for the customer order and the margins probably be aren't too far apart when it comes to a Rubicon Gladiator vs. a Rubicon Wrangler.

Of course this could also just be my wishful thinking wanting my Gladiator Rubicon Diesel to be built and arrive at Gupton sooner ;)

Guess you don't know Wrangler buyers around here. Most I know would skip Jeep rather than buy a truck that's longer and more expensive. Many around here are 2 door versions, and driven by young women. Give them a choice - no Wrangler, you have to buy a truck instead and they'll walk. Likely to a Bronco.
You see 200 to 1 Wrangler vs. Gladiator here and there's a big reason for that. It's a heavier bigger truck among other things.
The only capability the JT adds is hauling plywood.......... but off-road, the Wrangler wins.
Many folks around here have utility trailers. People who wants trucks typically will go full-size. Gladiator doesn't sell worth crap here. Wranglers are almost the official car of our area. (Grand Cherokee very close to that)
Gladiator is very niche - Wrangler far more universal.

I'm not saying they don't sell, but they don't fly off the lot as fast. My truck was built in January 2021 and purchased off the lot in July. I live in central TX which is probably as truck heavy market as there is.

I got mine for a good bit under MSRP plus a $1000 incentive. (I know it's not as good of a deal as ordering, but it was one of those times where life decided for me and I needed it right then.) I bet it's rarer the Wrangler has a cash incentive.

It is all relative I guess. For all intents, Gladiator is a niche vehicle and sharing a high parts content with the Wrangler, way less development cost and higher profit margin for Jeep

Jeep has it dialed in on what the market sales expectations are pretty well for it.
