your trip looks amazing, thanks for sharing! My biggest issue with having a "desert-rated" Mojave on the East Coast is that now I'm jonesing to get back to Johnson Valley some day and stretch the legs a bit.

My trailer hunt took a while since I had specific requirements I didn’t want to compromise on. I had a 2 door JK at the time so I had a 2000 lb weight limit.
Size- needs to fit in garage so no storage fees.
Weight- under 2000 lbs
Durability- will it survive my abuse?
Capability- will it go on real Jeep trails
Just before I decided to order a new one I got super lucky. I found mine in 2019 (like new) on Craigslist for a decent price. After adding accessories I wanted and upgrading the suspension, it’s been an amazing trailer.
The hitch is a Max Coupler full articulating hitch.

Appreciate that info, thanks!

Seems like you had a great trip .. I did a very similar route back in October with Overland Bound. We had a "trail day" where we worked with the National Park Service to do trail repair, clean out trash from one of the old ranches, and collected seed pods from the Joshua trees.

Overland Bound organizes at least one trip a year to volunteer for the NPS and it is a great way to give back while doing the road with a bunch of like minded people.

Here are some additional pictures to motivate those who want to go...

Sand dunes. It was getting dark and was quite challenging finding our way through here.

Great photos and story. I have wanted to ride this for the last 30 years but something always got in the way. I have ridden part of it and have some scary memories of Soda Lake while riding Barstow to Vegas in ‘72, 73, and 74. My last shot was the Big Bear Trail Riders annual run, but that fizzled out when my riding buddy’s girlfriend called from the ER as we were approaching Chiriaco Summit. Now I think I’m too old to ride. Thought about driving it in my Gladiator Rubicon but the significant other can’t take rough roads due to back surgeries. Guess I’m just out of luck. For all you younger guys, quit saying ”someday” and do it.

This is cool. I plan to do the Mojave Road after I move to Vegas. I don't know if my trailer would make it, but maybe on the east side as you say. If I was going to do the whole thing I guess I'd throw a RTT on. This is right up there with White Rim as a legendary overland route.

Are you running the stock tires?

No some days are guaranteed, I’d rather say I did it as opposed to saying I wish I did it. Usually on my return trips from Alaska someone always says I’ll go next year when the price of fuel drops, not happening go now and enjoy the trip

I finally did it! This trail has been on my list for many years, but hasn’t fit into my schedule until now. I invited a few others to go with me but it was short notice and I decided what the hell, and went anyway. I figured there would be others out there and I was right. What a great adventure. The JT was flawless and so was my trailer. No mechanical issues whatsoever. I used a combo of Gaia, Trails Offroad and the Mojave Road Guide book to stay on course. Route finding can be confusing because the trail has changed over the years and different maps point you in different directions. The east half of the trail is scenic and pretty quiet, but the west half is busy, bumpy and much slower going, so I really liked the east side better. Anyway, here’s a bunch of pics, and I'm happy to answer any questions you want to ask.

My dad took the family in late 1949 from Pasadena to a ranch in the Mojave where he grew Alfalfa. The ranch was in the shadow of Piute Butte which he owned a part of. We took the Jeep out there a year ago and now the ranch is entirely covered with solar panels and the owner is selling the electricity to Southern California Edison. My older brothers remember the pigs and horses and the sidewinders. The foundation of the house, barn, and the small swimming pool were still there, and so were the snakes.

Very good post and introduction to the Mojave Road. Where did you spend the first night on the Mojave Road? Do you think three days gives you enough time on the road?
Thanks
