This was today
exploring the "Empty Quarter"
of the San Luis Pass on Galveston Island
named for the eponymous region
of the Sahara Desert.

Here I am cruising the deceptive sands
with confidence.

The flat, level appearance
seduces the unwary tourist
like the one below.

The green VooDoo kinetic rope
has recovered many a vehicle here.
Note the wooden dowel
for the connection to the Fancy Ford.

The little girl was great.
Right after I snapped the picture,
she looked up and extended her arms
palms up in a perfect shrug.

My only charge for a recovery
is that I have to take a picture.

Bunce School Road, Colorado, last March. This XJ, Austin Powers'd themselves into the trail. The passenger was one of my employees, who reached out to the store, to have me come and rescue them. Had to unstuck the GMC also.

I was with @Mightytalldude and @darksidedesign, so can only take 1/3 of the credit. But it was very fun. They drove it down and home that same night.

Lost Knife Trail in Alberta, nothing technical, but a solid week of rain ended that morning. Probably not the ‘smart’est whip for mud.

the little smart was seriously impressive though, 4 lug conversion, AT tires and armor from a side by side, rear engine, rear drive and a flat floor pan, if it wasn’t for the mud it would’ve really done well

It definitely did. It was harder to get a Jeep above them to even do the recovery without them sliding down the hill. The actual recovery went better than expected. That’s what happens with multiple experienced and calm peeps.

They were lucky we were late getting to Poughkeepsie Gulch that day. We were the last ones on the hill, besides them.

With mud tires, it would have done really well. I learned that the hard way, out on a muddy trail in my JK with AT tires. It was almost embarrassing, when a Suzuki Samurai(with proper tires) came and pulled me out of the bushes.

Needs more aggressive tires, but damn, I love this!

Found a "van life" family stuck in staircase... they were off on a side trail and had been stuck several hours. I used the winch and had them back on the road in no time. They were happy campers!
