There are a lot of idiots out there. My city of Nashville has changed from its quaint Sothern Charm small town feel to the chaotic NY, Cali big city crazy. I love some aspects of the influx of new multicultural people, but not impressed with their impatient often aggressive driving style.

This year alone I close out with 4 incidents, this does not include probably 10 times someone has hit my sticking out wheels and tires (read poke) in traffic ??.
I’ve had a weapon drawn on me twice for absolutely nothing, yes I carry but that is not the time nor place to engage a crazy person that very obviously has no idea about rules of engagement nor how to hold a weapon.
I’ve also been hit in the back of my gladiator twice in less than 2 months. Yes lass than two months!

both of the drivers that hit the gladiator were not from my home state of TN, and neither had insurance or a DL. Pictures below, the gladiator with the red focus accident happened a little over 24 hours ago. His car went under the JT hitting it really hard. This makes no sense, I wasn’t looking at rear view when this happened, because I was on an on ramp to the interstate from downtown Nashville. He must have been on his phone, fell behind as traffic moved forward, then floored his vehicle not realizing the traffic in front of him, including me and my beloved JT, were stopped in traffic again.

this driver got out of his totaled car, I asked him if he was okay, he simply said “I don’t have a driver’s license, turned and ran on foot back up the ramp until out of sight, never to come back. A true hit and run on all senses of the words!
I waited for 3.5 hours blocking more than half of the on-ramp yet people were able to get by, even semi trucks that missed me by 1” or less. People often yelling at me, flipping me off, getting out and telling me I had to move my truck because it’s the law… umm the police told me to stay put, and I couldn’t move anyway because the car was stuck under my truck!

glad my gladiator is lifted, glad I wasn’t carrying my expensive mountain bike on the rear. These trucks are tough. Though I think this time the hit and going under the JT bent the frame.

the first rear hit happened when I was turning into a hospital parking lot but still on a main road. A black Toyota Avalon hit me then and I did not get the front end pics of the Avalon. You can see the hood of that car pushed back to the windshield. A front view would show the total destruction the JT put on this car too. This guy had a father show up in another car 10 minutes after accident. The father was yelling at me in Farsi, I understood some of it but the hospital security officer knew more of the language than I did. The father was trying to get me to tell the police that he was driving the car, not his son. His son did not have a DL nor insurance. The son was cuffed and taken to jail. I was surprised by the police taking him into custody. I hadn’t had time to replace the rear bumper yet, so same bumper took the hit from the red ford as well.

How many new yawkers does it take to "enrich" the great state of Tennessee?
Im from Knoxville, and Nashville is lost to the yankee hoard. The city "managers" should be proud of how phuked up the city is now...its a mess, most of us born and bred wont go near it anymore.

Man this makes me so angry. Seattle is just as bad or worse. I couldn't stand that state anymore and had to leave before doing bad things. It amazes me how there continues to be no consequence for criminals.

Sorry for your Gladi, glad you are OK, and yes, far too many freeloaders and morons in the world.

Get CCW Safe insurance, that way if you are forced to defend yourself you have an excellent legal team fighting for you from the get go.

Your post has a lot of information open for discussion. Sorry to hear about your troubles.

I am impressed that your plastic bumper held up. Seems like they can take a hit or two.

I always wondered if Tennessee was a good state to retire in. They seemed to always push their sales pitch on us retired Military folks.

If you carry, you need to make sure you are well versed on the laws in your state. Stand your ground, castle doctrine, etc.

I was born and raised in Florida. I've seen rural areas turn into retirement communities full of Northerners overnight. (The Villages) Now I get told on a daily basis how my way is wrong and they know everything.

Depends who you ask
First off let me say I'm sorry this happened to you and im glad you are not injured other than the damage to your Gladiator which held up very well especially compared to the car. This is the reason my wife and I made the decision about 15 years ago to move away from any large city and out to a rural area. The general lawlessness and coarseness of the culture over the last twenty or thirty years will continue to make cities unlivable for decent people. Advice about legal representation insurance and CCW is probably a good idea untill you can get out.

Yeah, it's not just Nashville... down here in Huntsville the idiots drive like they are in a demolition derby. The road I live on, is off of one of the highways here... 65mph must only be a starting point... i have to slow down to turn right onto me street without the security of a turn lane, and to go the other way have to drive 1/4 mile to use the next median turn to U-turn into that 75+mph traffic...

Then there are the entitled ones that try to merge onto the highway in front of you despite there being 1/2 mile behind you before the next car...

How terribly aggravating! Clearly, there was nothing that you could have done to stop that. I hate to say it, but it can be a jungle out there!

I just barely (within 7 feet) avoided a parking lot accident on Black Friday when a fellow tore through a white stop strip line from a lane perpendicular to the main lane of travel I was in. All was fine except for a bit of spilled coffee that burped from my cupholder held coffee through the lid to the shifter boot on the console and a bag that flew forward when I stomped on my brakes. Oh, and dislodging my heart which was stuck in my throat.

I was maybe traveling at 10 mph at the time and really believe anyone would say I was driving completely reasonably when this guy sailed across my path. I ain't going to lie, that shook me up a bit and refocused my point of view to re-evaluate how much shopping I really had left after that stop.

Still, I take some comfort that these midsized trucks seem so well built for the trails, and consequently, the occasional traffic accident from the photos and stories I've read on here. So, thank you all for sharing.

On a lighter note, I've seen and filmed lifted gladiators maturely take the high ground in a face off against other cars: https://www.jeepgladiatorforum.com/...r-car-crushing-rock-crawling-simulator.74773/

On a series note, noting how all vehicles nowadays have crumple zones, does anyone else ever wonder about the approximate tolerances before frame bending when it comes to rock crawling, articulation flexing, accidents, and the occasional intended car crawl? I realize that an answer to that can likely only be it depends. However, I still very much wonder if there is a general rule of thumb. ...I would so get a subscription to Consumer Reports if they did a study on that!!!

Yeah. Same.

The fun part of moving to a new place is re-calibrating thresholds for things like "heavy traffic" and "drug/homeless problem."

We've had a homeless problem for decades, if not centuries. My hometown in WA had a few through the years, but in the past 4-5 years, it's been more and more. In UT, there are fewer homeless than King County in WA - by a factor of 10.

Regarding the driving of "transplants" - in WA there was always a significant number of drivers who caused problems. To avoid being "racist," I rephrased the common stereotype of poorly-skilled drivers to "people who didn't grow up with automobiles" or drove on the "wrong" side of the road.

A roachy, 4-color Geo Metro you expect to be a hazard on the road. A brand new Benz sedan? No.

Some people just don't have driving as a "core competency." And it's infuriating because majority of those people don't have insurance, either.

oh man king county is real bad. Maple valley is ok at the moment but it is being encroached on and is only a matter of time. Everyone except my parents(due to family drama) is fleeing that place as fast as they can. It just sucks because I really miss the sound and the bellingham geographical area. But its just too much to deal with.
