Am I optimistic/crazy, or is anyone else surprisingly impressed with the factory Falken Wildpeak MT tires in the snow and ice?

My JT and the factory MT’s have 15k miles on them- not new by any means. I didnt have much snow experience with the tires last spring, but have been super impressed with road manners, noise, and especially offroad traction here in the northeast over the summer and fall. That being said I’ve been equally nervous about winter snow and ice traction, I even prepared myself to buy a set of 3 peak rated ATs for winter use.

Our first real storm of the year arrived this week here in NY. Locally we averaged around 1ft of snow. So far I am incredibly impressed with the MT’s in deep snow, sloppy slush, and packed snow/ice. I have an 1/8th mile long steep gravel driveway and haven’t needed 4wd yet. On the road I havent slipped that I’ve noticed. This morning I intentionally slammed the brakes on hard packed snow and ice at 20mph and was shocked that the abs kicked in for just a second before the tires grabbed and lurched me forward in my seat with an abrupt stop. The rubber compound even feels softer than I expected- especially at this mornings temp of 18.

Am I out of my mind, or is anyone else experiencing way better winter performance with these tires than they should be?

I only have about 5k miles on mine, but they performed very well for me yesterday morning when most roads still had some packed snow on them. I drove carefully, but didn't have any issues coming to a stop or moving from a stop sign or red light. I had it in 2H pretty much the whole time. I did have to go into 4H when I got to my driveway because it's steep and there was some packed snow/ice at the base of it when I pulled in.

Interested to see how they perform going forward and with more mileage on them. I think they'll continue to be fine in snow, but not going to take my chances on ice.

Good to know. Thanks for the report. I really wanted the Falcon MT's but my lot queen came with the AT's. My previous experience with MT tires was that they sucked out loud on snow and ice. That said, I also think the Falcon AT's are a good snow tire up here in Wi...

Also in NY but running the KM2s, jury is still out on them.

Good to know though 🤙🏻 If a set becomes available locally I’ll snatch them up.

Same first impressions here, very impressed with the MT snow performance so far. I was also prepared to buy dedicated snows but these Wildpeak MT are surprisingly good.

I bought 35in Falken Wilpeaks about 500 miles ago. Just drove quite a bit in the western Pa snow “storm” we had and I am impressed as well. The M/Ts I had in my wrangler were horrible. These are actually quite decent in the snow.

They are my first MT’s, but my previous trucks all ran AT’s- including Grabber At2, Grabber ATX, Wildpeak AT3w, Wrangler AT Kevlar etc... I was expecting worse traction than those AT’s (most of which are sever snow rated)but so far I actually think they’re better.

The Wildpeak MT's are much better than the BFG MT's in the snow and even more so in the mud. So much that when I went to 35's from the stock 33's on my JT I went with the Wildpeaks again. I got my JT on 6-1-2019 so I went through one WI winter before this one. The only time I find myself being carefull is during a heavy rain. The Wildpeaks do get a bit slippery then.

Mine have 13K and this will be my second winter with the JT here in the midwest and I would say yes so far they have been very capable in snow, sleet and wet roads! they have gotten slight;y louder than when new but certainly not bad at all.
