They are not doing anything with it, yet, but Nevada is now requiring an odometer reading with the yearly registration renewal.

This is all good EV conversation but one other thing needs to be considered, particularly related to infrastructure. Right now, despite our government doing everything possible to kill ICE and incentivize EVs, most people aren’t buying pure EV vehicles.

So long as they are a niche market, your average gas station owner is never going to tear out his pumps to replace them with charging stations. Maybe a token few chargers on the edge of his lot because he can get “free” government money, but no more. All it will take is a regime change in 2024 to make all of this go away and we are back to $2.00 gas and nobody caring about EVs outside of big cities and people who want to virtue signal.

Why do you think all of these lofty goals for EV adoption are a decade out? Nobody wants to overplay their hand.
Werd. Toyota Executive Claims That Lack Of Consumer Demand Makes EV Adoption Goal A Long Shot For 2030

I don't want to keep harping on the infrastructure (I guess somebody has to because we know politicians aren't factoring it in) - in addition to your gas station owners - if new car sales are pretty much reduced to EVs, do you think suddenly car dealers and service stations are going to be happy about greatly reducing oil change, fluids, and other engine service revenue? That's often the primary method for them to turn a profit.

EVs require much less maintenance and are cheaper to maintain over time (even factoring in battery life). Yes ICE models will thrive in the used car market, but how many out of warranty used cars get serviced at the dealer? Not enough to float a dealer's bottom line.

Pa. has been requiring mileage on the yearly registration too for years. They will most likely do something based off of that. And the feds with tack something on your 1040.

Never see 6500, 2k at best and she rolls right along on 37's, plenty of power....
Maybe it's a gearing/auto trans thing but my Glady is weak as pee on the interstate. I have a stock Willys manual 3.6. In all fairness my other car is an SS Camaro so it is going to be slow compared to that but I'm talking about highway passing speed. I'm behind some blue hair camped out in the left lane and I just need to get from 60 up to say 80 to safely navigate a traffic situation. I'm in 6th and I smash the pedal to the floor. Nothing. It just slowly speeds up so I shift down to 5th and smash it. Sluggishly it speeds up a little faster but not what I am hearing described. Maybe if I changed my gearing it would help but I daily this thing so I would take a hit in the MPG dept.

However, installing a factory V8 will fix these issues. Know how I know? Remember the SS Camaro? It will do anything I want or need in these situations AND gets better MPG than the Galdiator.

Thoughts?

So we agree that it won't work in hard rural areas.

Where we disagree is in the vast middle where 70% of America lives. The suburbs. IMHO, a BEV works BETTER in the burbs than in the city. Because suburban people are more likely to have a garage that they can charge overnight in.
Not if you don't want to wake your family in hysteria in the middle of a night to a massive house fire!! :CWL:

If you talk about emissions. They just moving it from the tail pipe to the smoke stack.

Just wait. Once there is more EV's on the road. The states and the feds start losing road tax money. They will hit the EV users hard to make up for that lost money. They will hit you with a road use tax of some kind. You will have to report your mileage either monthly/yearly, or when you recharge. Might be a meter of some kind on the recharging station.

Honestly the key to all this discussion is can we get a motor that has power and is an affordable option. I an hopeful the 3.0TT finds its way into that category the way the 2.0T did on the JL.

The JT should have had something like that from the start as it’s “base” motor.
I don't think affordable is the right word.

Based on info we have, which is not apples-to-apples, I would expect the 3.0tt to be about a $5,000 premium over the 3.6 (not counting all there other lux items which will probably come with it that everyone seems to be screaming for like ventilated seats for some reason). This is based off the idea that the 5.7 is about $2,750 upgrade over the 3.6 in the RAM, and the 3.0tt is a $2,000 upgrade over the 6.4 in the Wagoneer.

What the Gladiator needed was a modernized version of the old 5.2 magnum v8. I have that motor in my 2000 1500 and while its not fast, it has a much better torque curve than the 3.6, and I am sure if it was newer with just some minor refreshments and the same 8 speed transmission, it would be the hands down winner.

Being happy or not, no business is entitled to keep their status quo ranking in the market, they have to evolve if they want to keep it or actually grow. Only like 50 something Fortune 500 companies ranked in the mid 1950's is still on it today.

ICE car dealership, gas station and the vehicle service industry will have to evolve. I do not see the USA being 100% EV in 20-30 years, but it will be high percentile.

Gotta get into the higher RPM range. Try shifting into 3rd or 4th when passing.

I am willing to bet it will be reported at recharge. There is no privacy- your hooking to the grid.
Also willing to bet we will start to see insurance companies getting data from these cars too- they log everything already.

I kind of assumed every state did that already. Guess not. But it's not used for anything (yet) here, other than verifying odometer readings to catch rollbacks and fraud. That'll have to change though, with no gas taxes on EVs.

Try a deeper gear. You can't pass in a 6mt gladiator in 6th. Also, even the owners manual says don't shift to 6th until 65 mph, so realistically, the way it's geared, 60 is too slow to even be in 6th, let alone to pass. Don't fear the gear. Up until 65, stay in 5th, and downshift to 4th to pass, or 3rd if you really need to go. 3rd gear tops out faster than your gladiator will likely even go (more than the 97 mph top speed of my Rubi). We have two overdrives. 6th is a super deep overdrive, and 5th is a more typical overdrive. Neither is conducive to passing. 4th/3rd for that.

This 3.6 is rev happy, and we're geared for highway mpgs, so you have to downshift deeply to pass/accelerate.
