Gladiators are indeed a half ton truck, saying we dont call half tons half tons anymore because trucks are bigger now is silly. heck my 1956 cj6 is a half ton

Aside from the top down, doors off crowd, jeep wave crowd, but also the wrangler exists for that and is even better at maneuverability...).

Sure it does, but no bed. The gladiator is perfect for me (We have a Wrangler too). I can't carry rocks or dirt in the Wrangler, and with the tonneau on, I have more storage in a gladiator. What got me in a gladiator was that it has everything the Wrangler had, but was more practical for a homeowner, with the bed, and was only a little more expensive (back then). I got the gladiator because I wanted a jeep and a truck, at the same time. But I'm under no illusions that it's an f150. It's in the class of the Colorado/Tacoma/Ranger. A full size, it is not. But I test drove a Tacoma, too. I liked the gladiator better. Plus, convertible, of course, but you mentioned that.

If you don't like Ridgelines (and I'll bet nearly none of you ever owned one) then DON'T BUY a Ridgeline, easy peasy.

How is 1000 pounds not 1/2 ton? My Rubicon has a load rating for just over that.

I loaded jusy over 1,000 pounds of seasoned oak fire wood into my JTR and drove it 35 miles home. Not a squeak, no tail drag, and no real difference in performance that was unexpected with such a load. California classifies it as a truck, and mine is licensed as such.

Having owned multiple “1 ton” trucks I said I would never get a short bed 1/2 ton. Mostly drive by my hatred for IFS. Well guess my Jeep obsession won… damn you Jeep.

Oh well, at least it has more HP and bigger brakes than my 95 F350 powerstroke did.
