I use two dealers in the DFW area - Shottenkirk in Prosper, Tx and Dodge City in McKinney Tx. These dealers will install ANYTHING and warrant it for the remainder of your factory warranty. Others won't touch anything unless it comes from the FCA parts cannon.

Jeep hasn't built a decent steering box in a long time.

I've had nothing but good from my local dealership. They have been great to work with and go out of there way to solve any issues. I do stick with only one mechanic and he knows my vehicle.

I agree with you on some of these things, but most of them I don't.

In my opinion, anything that is modified outside of the dealership/manufacturer or is altered in some way... I'm on board with them not covering that under warranty. When you buy the vehicle and it's stock and has no modifications... that's what the warranty is applicable to (of course there are some exceptions).

So me personally, most of the things mentioned above make perfect sense to me. If I'm the one who modified or altered it, I should be responsible for repairs in the areas affected by such modifications.
Yeah, big honkin' 37" tires are going to be tough on the stock steering parts. They are going to wear. Sure, the dealer could have replaced them, but in a few months - guess what. They'd be shot again. Tires that big need a more beefy drag link and other parts. It's a whole lot of stress. Then the lift to accommodate such tires is throwing the geometry of the steering off - more wear because now the forces are more angular - flexing the parts.

My bet is also that after all that time, the vibrations, the forces of the big tires and lift did indeed add vibrations and forces to the visors. When you unhook them in the middle and swing them out and then hit rough roads, or go off-roading, you're going to break them.
Why don't mine break? Streets and highways, and I don't often have them unhooked and swung to the side (I have big sunglasses with shaded sides to take care of that - I went through that with my Eagles over the years. Every Eagle restorer and owner out there is looking for those visor mounts! HAHAHA - I have them all!)

I agree. I wouldn't expect them to cover the steering box, death wobble.

The rear axle, visor, and heat issue should have been covered.
Sun visors not being covered due to excessive off-road is just being cheap. The wrangler/gladiator specifically is as close to as exists a road-legal COTS off-road vehicle. For golly's sake, it's the essence of the brand's identity and the only reason owners put up with noise, wonky steering, and the "stimulating" ride quality because the machine is purpose-built with off-road capability in mind. I'd be interested to know how such a thing could be proven in any case.

That is a lot in mods...I honestly would never buy a new jeep if I was going to put that much in them. Start with a well worn one at a reasonable price and build from there.

No one seems to mention the Magenson act not sure I spelled it right. But the warranty should cover anything not directly affected by modifications

There's not much in his list of complaints that isn't affected by the mods though. That's why it's a moot point.

Yeah, I ended up trading in my 2009 JK for it. Have I known I would get into it this much, I would've just kept it instead.

I love our dealership but if I had spent 40k in mods, I wouldn’t even bother bringing it in unless I was fully prepared to pay excessively high troubleshooting rates. At that level of investment most would consider it a complete one-off/purpose-built rig with zero warranty coverage.
Yes, but major issues like overheating should not have been impacting warranty because of a custom bumper. Also, I wish I had a mod to keep the outside temps below 90 in Arizona for the aux battery to work :)

You spent $40K on upgrades?!!!:surprised:
Easy to do:
Big Items:
Fab Fours bumpers/Fenders ~6K
5 inch Lift Kit ~5K with installation
37 inch tires with rims ~4K
transmission regear ~2K
rigid lights ~2K
diamondback cover ~2K
front/rear drive shafts ~2K
steering: tie-rod, drag link, steel knuckles, ball joints, truss ~5K

all the miscellaneous stuff like armor, skid plates, sunrider, axle shafts etc...

I bought mine right when Covid hit so got nearly 15K off the sticker price, that's how I justify it in mind :)

Did you ever take into account the payload rating? After all of that additional weight from the accessories do you have any payload capacity left over for yourself and a passenger? The added weight is just another stress on a number of the systems that you've had failures on. another reason for the dealer to say no.

However, I have to admit the rejection of your sun visor mount claim sounded pretty lame.
I hope you didn't show this picture to your service writer! :)

? eesh. I mean you are 40k in on parts but haven’t upgraded to PSC hydro assist, 1.5 ton ends, aluminum drag links and tie rods. Still rocking factory axle housings…. Would really like to see the build sheet to know where the 40k went?? I suppose just different priorities? ?

As far as the dealer? Brave my friend brave- I avoid them like cancer. I wouldn’t trust them with a factory vehicle, let alone one with that much thrown into it…. They tend to screw up the basics… ??‍♂ to each their own I suppose. I value my time- I want things fixed right and once the first time. I don’t have time for rain-deer games, pointing the finger at nonsense and getting out of most fixes…. ??‍♂

Ok- so we just do math different… really it’s 23k in mods not 40k.

so looks like it’s time to start throwing money atmore mechanical pieces vs aesthetics.
Check out PSC’s full hydro assist kit. Try not to throw up it’s like $3200+ just parts.

then$2500 for some skids.
??? just want to seal the deal and help you to that $40k mark
