I'll be honest, for $60 it's probably worth it unless you enjoy tinkering with automotive electronics (which I do - but I'm a nerd)

I'm still going to post my write up, but for anyone who wants the "easy button" the eBay link is the way to go.
Well, the REAL easy button is just plug in a tazer... but I would still love to see your write up.

You need to organize a, "Group Buy," for the connector shells & pins, so as to minimize the cost.

I have one of the harnesses I'm not using, my bumper is in a different configuration now and I don't need it. Never installed it. $50 shipped Lower USA to first private message to me.

This is my story and I'm sticking to it. I was rear-ended hit and run by a Wrangler. Picked up a take off steel Rubicon bumper for repair. It didn't have the license plate lights with it and my plastic bumper lights didn't fit. Tried to order the lights and couldn't find anything in stock. I neck of red plugged the light holes with a hunk of neoprene and installed a aftermarket license plate light. The aftermarket light doesn't glare nearly as much as the original so I'm going to keep it, need to find something a little cleaner for the holes then I'll be good, at least I'm legal right now.

The little black thing sticking out from top of the bumper is my led light.

A dealer can not and will not disable any safety feature that is required by law.
There is no disclaimer in the laws for license plate lights that say "except for when backing up".

Just to clarify, the Tazer can handle this task?

It seems to me that if a Tazer can disable the license plate light in reverse, the dealer should be able to.

Has anyone ever tried?
No because it's a live function.
It's not something you can program in thus no dealer can do it. There's no setting in the BCM for it.
Tazer has to be there. It senses you are in reverse and turns off the license plate lights. Take out tazer, lose that function.
Like said - you can do it with a very simple REALY and a couple of connectors.
That's my plan - I already have the taps into my reverse lights, just need to tap into the license plate light harness (which ironically doesn't feed through the 12 pin tail light harness)

I'll try it.
I leave it plugged in. Too hard on the fingers to take it out.

Damn...
He could've found a bigger relay!
I'd use a reed relay myself; you're talking a minimal current draw. 12V reed relay on Amazon for about $4.00.

Kevin
A really tiny relay would work, heck, even a transistor circuit could deal with the license plate lights - and that gives me an idea - I have a transistor relay driver circuit that could work.

Conversely, if you could fabricate a pair of 'wings' to cover the lights ball cap style, you could achieve the same intent or shield the backup camera from glare without eliminating the light's intended purpose. I figure all you would need is a 3D printer and some 3M double sided tape.

Unplug your license plate light and wire in one like my above post. It's not as bright and points down. Really reduced the glare. Kinda down and dirty way to do it, easy and simple though.
