After years of issues with my 2020 LE, heater core replacement, steering box, RS lifter replacement, leaking rear window, and the latest, painting coming off on the hood, Jeep has offered to buy back the truck with 37K miles on it. I don't have the offer yet, but getting ready. As a result of the earlier issues, Jeep gave me a free Max Care warranty, good for 5 more years and/or 125K miles. I absolutely love driving the Gladiator and would likely want to replace it with a Mojave. My question to the forum is whether Jeep has worked out the earlier issues with the Gladiators that would keep a Mojave on the road and out of the dealership. The Max Care warranty is really attractive as there would be zero cost to owning the truck for several years, beyond the term of the standard warranty on a new Gladi. I'm just tired of the constant problems and trips to the dealer. Do I roll the dice and keep the LE trusting that the worst of the problems is behind me, or cut bait and go with the newer Mojave? BTW, my current truck is black and it would be nice to have a different color that looks good beyond 5 minutes after washing it. Any and all feedback from the Form would be appreciated.

Well, sounds like you like your jeep a lot, despite its issues. Some of the issues were doubtlessly worked out on the new ones, but it seems like through warranty, they've fixed your current one. The new ones cost a lot more. So do you want to pay for a new one?I'd take the warranty, unless you'e getting bored with gladiators in general.

Thanks for the quick replies. I should also point out that it will still have to go in to have the hood repainted due to the paint flaking.

The heater core is likely a fluke.

The steering box was a recall / TSB if I recall correctly, the lifter and cam issue is 'common' and may or may not carry into the '22 year model (P0300 misfire is 'common' in the '22s), and the rear window leak seemed to have been isolated to the '20 year model.

I have seen the corrosion / flaking around the hinges on various year models (and going back into the JK's). If I recall the hood is aluminum and the hinges are not. Dissimilar metals reacting near each other - someone correct me if I'm wrong - was this only different metals on JK's? There should be a barrier between the two, but you could possibly see this issue on any Jeep.

Take the warranty and keep it, IMO. She doesn't sound unreliable - just sounds like you had all the first year problems and now they are all fixed.

^^^^ Everything he said 100%. I had a 09 JK with the same paint flaking in the same spot. I would say just ignore it, between that and rock chips it will never be perfect. My JK also had teething issues like leaking transmission lines and death wobble all before 25K. As long as the issues get resolved that is what matters. My JT has had a few issues sorted out as well in its first 10 months.

What earlier issues?
You had troubles most others don't have and never will have.
My 2020 had no issues at all once they got the steering gear replaced and the tonneau cover taken care of. It was a trouble-free truck after the first months.
My 2022 is doing well.

the lifter and cam issue is 'common' and may or may not carry into the '22 year model (P0300 misfire is 'common' in the '22s),
Common on the internet................ otherwise, not so much.
We've not seen odd-bank cam issues since the 2020s - not to that scale anyway. Odd one-offs.
We've had 4, or is it 5, 3.6s since the big engine updates in 15 for the 16 model year - no engine troubles.
Misfire must not be too common on the 22s. The ones that have had a misfire thing seem to have been resolved by dealers (and TSBs)

Most JT owners don't experience troubles. It just looks worse on the forums because it's a place where people gather to, well.............

I think it comes down to the dollar value of the jeep offer. If it's more than you think your jt is worth take it. If it's less, keep the warranty.

Of course, hence my ears around 'common'. Common only in the places where people can vent.

I've only owned one other 3.6 - my 2016 Wrangler and I had it since new. 84,000 literally trouble free miles. It was a great drive train.

Take the deal, if it's good, and get rid of the truck. They see a potential problem, otherwise you would not have the buyback offer. There is nothing special enough about a LE to accept the risk of keeping it.

8/2019 2020, JT Sport. Maybe just buy a common JT this time, Mojave if you want, and avoid the high priced special editions. My 2020 is amazing and low issues at 60K miles.

I've been lucky (knocks on wood) with both my '19 GC Ltd. and Overland (ordered in May of '19, took delivery in July of '19) that I've not had any issues other than the leaking rear window in my JT which was fixed under warranty with a whole new roof. I have also not had any issues with steering on my JT and still have the original factory installed steering box.

I've always wondered (and haven't gone to the GC forums to see) if the GC's with the 3.6 L have been having the same issues as some here have had with mis-fires, engines basically grenading on them. The engines are identical except that in our JTs, the alternator sits high on the engine and in the GCs, it's lower.

I am guessing that the issues in the models that were built in mid-late 2020 up to the early '22s were due to poor quality control simply because they didn't have the personnel in place, due to COVID, to do proper quality checks not only in the builds themselves but also all the suppliers of parts for our trucks.

Hopefully, now that we're a bit more out of the woods with this pandemic, quality staffing and quality control checks will alleviate a lot of these issues.

I didn’t read all the responses but one think to think about is the current interest rate if you’re going to financing anything. It seems jeep has fixed all of the issues you’ve dealt with. And the fact that a stock Mojave is going around 60k I’d be interested to see if you’d truly come out on top.
