Traded my Taco that had been an amazing truck and did everything I wanted on and off road for a Gladiator. I would not change a thing. As awesome and fun as it was to build the Tacoma the Gladiator ramps it up a notch or two. Off road...the Gladiator just chews up trails that may have got my Tacoma hung up without a perfect line. I have added a 2.5" Clayton lift since this picture among other things.

Would any of those issue fit under the 5 yr warranty?

Just the misfire as that would fall under the powertrain warranty. Driveshaft is a recall and that is covered regardless and probably has already been done if it fell under the recall guidelines but that only affected like very small number.

If the steering box is steel, then that TSB has been done to it. If not, then that will be an out of pocket expense if you choose to have it changed out.

My first Gladiator was a 05/19 build and I would wind up having the Steering TSB done under the basic warranty along with the rear window leak. I also had very intermittent misfire issues but never permanent enough for it to be dealt with by the dealership.

Not all early Gladiators had any or all of these issues, but it was frequent enough to be topic of conversation many times on the forum. Knowing what I know now, I would not take a risk on a 06/19 build either unless I knew 100% it's history to date.

I need to buy a lottery ticket. My 2020 only had the steering gear replaced under that TSB, otherwise, it was all cosmetic stuff - tonneau cover sag (covered/replaced), piece of interior trim game unglued and the dealer replaced - completely - all of the rear trim instead of just gluing it back on.
Engine - perfect
Transmission - perfect
No leaks of any sort - not even rear window
Last I knew, it was still doing fine.

Hi all -

thought I’d post a quick update. I ended up trading the taco for a Gladiator, but not the one in the first post. I bought a 2021 Mojave with 25k miles. It still has ~15 months left on the comprehensive warranty and is CPO so has an extended power train warranty.

I have only had it for a few days, but have loved it so far. A few early observations:

- I went with the soft top for ease of going topless. I’m in the south, so should have ample opportunities to do so through the year. I realized that the gladiator is altogether not a “practical” vehicle in the strictest sense, so trying to compromise with a hardtop as a practical alternative to soft just didn’t really make sense.
- no issues with the road noise so far, save for the MTs that came in the truck. I will be switching to factory ATs later this week and am expecting an improvement.
- my fears (stoked by this thread) of the SFA were overblown. No, it’s not the smoothest ride, but it’s really not bad at all. Not worth mentioning IMO.

Next step is to figure out what kind of bed cover to get.

There are several good threads with a lot of information and of course, opinions, on tonneau or bed covers. Everything from MOPAR roll-up soft covers to tri-fold, this brand, that brand, whatever.
