It has nothing to do with humility, or "the 1%".
It has to do with complacency and instant gratification.

You don't have to have a perpetual car payment. Follow a budget and set aside some money, and you'll surprise yourself in a good way.

Borrower is slave to the lender.
Saving $50k over let's say 4-5 years just to blow it on a new car doesn't seem gratifying to me. But to each their own.

You do think that "blowing" money on a new car is gratifying. You did it.

I would rather not have car payments and be in debt to others perpetually. But to each their own.

You asked me to talk you out of more debt, so I said my piece, I'll leave it there.

no. I didn’t blow my savings. And no you didn’t really add any insight other than virtue signal like that high altitude poster about how great you are at budgeting. Carry on though.

You don't have a lot of miles left on your 3/36 warranty. I would try to get a deal on a new JT. It might cost almost the same, give you a full warranty. I'd check it out soon as the strike will affet pricing and availability real soon.

Sheeeeesh. It sounds like you wanted everyone to tell you to just go for it.

if it was a $30-$40k loan on a 392, that’s one thing. But taking that much out on a rubi, (which we still have no clue which one you’re looking at) it sounds like you’ll end up upside down on it unless you truly plan on keeping it forever on what sounds like a 74+ month loan.

Not virtue signaling, trying to help you to still afford other expenses, God forbid you lose your job or something else comes up.

I say no to swapping to the 21, for many of the reasons listed. Yes, you get a Rubi, and miles are low, but you're still about to run out of (bumper-bumper) warranty.

Price out a new one, start with 0 miles, and a brand new warranty. There are huge discounts on the end of year 23s, and some dealers can get you a better interest rate on a new vehicle rather then used. Will it be a little more payment? Probably. But you're resetting the clock completely on warranty, value, and possibly a better (then current used) interest rate.

We can sit here and say you can make your overland better then a Rubi...but you're already at 29k and it's clearly in your head, and it will continue to be there. I just flipped my 20 Overland to a 23 Rubi on Saturday.

Don't get me wrong, Overland is a great model and fits a lot of people quite well, if you're happy with it, keep it. But if you want the Rubi or Mojave, it will continue to haunt you.

Fine... I'll say it then...

GET IT.

If you want it bad enough to post this here, it seems your heart is set. NOW, if you have a job, that will keep paying you, and you don't have a mountain of other debt or some crazy thing going on, do what makes you happy man. I don't have a ton of money in the bank, but I've lived my life and maintained my responsibilities too... granted I could've made some better decisions but I don't regret much!

Cheers!

So I’ll preface this by saying I wasn’t looking to trade in, but I found a used 2021 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon with 10k miles on it...in what appears to be pristine condition. MSRP is $46k..So I bit and did the usual dealer quote via online and the next day received a phone call. They’re offering me $36,540 for my current Jeep Overland, I owe $28K but somehow they’re going to knock off a couple thousand off MSRP for me to put $10k down. Here is where I’m torn; Interest rates..the best I can get at the moment is 6.99% with the way the market is however, my current rate is 3.75%. Keep in mind, they worked it out to where my payments would be $20 less monthly than I’m paying now(big whoop), with only 1 additional year added to my current loan. Would it be in my best interest to keep my current jeep and continue to accrue more positive equity before trading in? Or will 2021 MY’s depreciate heavily now there are new MY’s with new tech? Am I a fool for getting out of a 3.75% interest rate and into a 6.99% interest rate? I hate thought of giving the banks any more free money than they deserve, but is this deal too good to pass up? Help!
I know many of us can't afford to pay the full price, but the interest rate of 7% these days is very high. Can you make do by doing upgrades on your existing overland?
Based on the Fed's speech last week, they are not cutting interest rates this year but actually may do one more rate hike so buying something now on higher rate and refinancing in a few months to a lower rate is also not possible.

I’ve started drinking more again lately (football season), and naturally I’ve also started buying more shit on ExtremeTerrain again. I’m sure I’ll have a steel bumper and winch by week 10 of the season ?

If you're going to trade it in, I'd take a serious look at a 2023- If you're going to make the switch- why not use the dealers incentives of like 12k off a new rubicon glad and get 3 years of full warranty along with it.
I looked into this option myself. A local dealer had a new 23 Rubi loaded with all the options I want and in a color I would love. 14K off MSRP. A 68K Rubi for 53K. I currenlty drive a limited edition color, 23 Overland with every option but the cold weather package. Which I got for 8K off selling price. I have only made 4 payments and I have 3500 miles on it. I do go wheeling and wanted the Rubi bad. But, the dealer said he would only give me 35K for my Overland because he can sell a new 23 with 0 miles for 40K with the current 15% off deal. With that much negative equity I would pay 75K for that Jeep. No friggin way! So make sure they will give what your Gladiator should be worth before taking this route. Unless you have something besides a Gladiator to trade for it.

Don't forget to look at the Mojave! It has lots of exclusive features at about the same price as the Rubicon
