Last week I had the Rockslide Engineering Slider Steps install on my JT. Really love these steps but had an issue today when returning from a short 5 mile round trip. I was just about a hundred yards from the house when the passenger side step deployed then retracted, this happened 3 times before I reached my driveway. I got out walked to the passenger side and watched it deploy and retract twice more while just idling. I turned off the jeep opened the passenger doors, steps functioned perfectly. All magnets in place didn't spot anything unusual. Was this just a glitch? Has anyone experienced anything like this? First mod I have farmed out in decades... maybe my Jeep is jealous I didn't perform the work.

The steps will cycle down/up when first powered up. Since this is happening as you describe it I would suspect a loose connection somewhere. Pull the fuse in the power harness and check the harness to step plugs at the rear of the step-slider. One/both may be loose causing an intermittent connection. When you re-install the fuse both steps should cycle down/up. DO pull the main power fuse - checking the connections with power will likely get you a mouthful of step. Good luck!

Thank you for the advice, will definitely pull the fuse first, a step to the face doesn't sound like fun at all.

I was going to give the same advice. It’s either a bad connection, or it’s possible they didn’t do a good job putting the magnets in the right spots.

Thanks Dan, Gonna look at it today, we have a mild cold front 60 degrees now, chilly but we'll have a high of 80 today, perfect!

Pull the fuse for five minutes, usually takes care of any weird hiccups. I’ve had my rock slider engineering steps on two vehicles for an about a year. Crazy happy with them and I have installed the delete kit which is awesome with the doors off.

Thanks for the suggestion, I also have the door delete switches, its been a little over a week and I must say I am very impressed so far other than the random event.

I just raked my steps over the coals at Stoney lonesome in AL. They still work perfectly. Love these things. You’ll figure it out. Their support is amazing for what it’s worth. Truly amazing.

I checked all connections on the passenger side they were good. Also pulled the fuse for probably 10 min then put it back. Still deploying and retracting on their own even when vehicle is not running. I turned off the switch in the cab, they still were deploying and retracting with the switch in the off position, doors closed. Pulled the fuse to stop the madness lol. Shop that installed is aware, I will see them tomorrow.

How do the trails at Stoney Lonesome compare to the trails out by you?

Way less traction. I like the trails out west better, but these were challenging. Not layups.

Quick question, when I remove and reinstall the fuse I get a small spark, is this normal or an indication of possibly a short? One other thing I noted the power switch in the cab has no red led light on it, was this a change in the 3rd generation?

Mine are 3rd gen. The spark is normal. My switch lights up. I cant remember if there is a fuse for that light. I don’t think so.

Good news. Glad it’s getting straightened out.
