Oil filter on a 22021 diesel gladiator

Can you remove a oil filter to replace it on a 2021 diesel gladiator without draining the oil? I changed the oil but didn't use a oem filter because it wasn't available. And I hate to drain all of the new oil again. I'm not sure if I pull the filter without draining the oil, it going to come out the filter housing

Yes, you can replace the oil filter without draining the oil from the engine.

yes, the trick is to crack it open and unscrew it about 3/4 of the way loose. then let it site for a 1/2 hour, all the oil trapped in the cartridge should drain back into the block and not spill down the side of the motor as if you were to just unscrew the whole thing and remove it.

from experience, even just 5 minutes is enough to not make a mess. I think that's what it says in the book too.
