Well, "He landed" in the right state..... TN. Known for outlandish B.S. stories and the fact if you here it from a native Tennessean "It's probably at least slightly untrue if not a complete" lies. ?:LOL:

A thing I found by having multiple soldiers at different times from TN. was they couldn't talk for more than a few minutes without lying, for no other reason than just to lie. :headbang::mad:
In the many years of my military service then as a police officer, I experience that problem with people from just a few states and or from certain cities of a few of them states.

His formal education is a Masters In Anthropology.

He grew up with his Grandfather teaching him some mechanics working in a gas station garage that his father owned. He eventually got on a public access TV station in Houston and had a car show on that which ran for a few years and is were his personality came into play.

When it comes to anything in the modern OBDII era and those systems, he is literally out of his depth of experience and knowledge beyond some very basic info.

When Youtube came around and became monetized for content creators, it was a case of being in the right place at the right time and he latched on the short attention span format that was advertiser friendly. His early videos of him in Houston working in front of his home garage and the video footage of his garage looked like it was out of a episode of the TV show Hoarders.

You will almost never see him with any other Youtube Automotive content creators as it will become evident real quick how lacking he is in formal knowledge. About 5 years ago or so, there was a B-roll video floating around where Pennzoil had sponsored a few of the more popular YT automotive channels like Eric The Car Guy, Humble Mechanic, Chris Fix and even Scotty Kilmer. Pennzoil had brought all these content creators to include Scotty Kilmer to one of their engineering research facilities to show them the process. Pennzoil then gave them as one group to work through some type of engineering puzzle that required both hands on and interpreting data to complete the puzzle. The video panned out and showed Scotty Kilmer working alone at a separate table from the group. That pretty much summed up Scotty Kilmer to me.
That explains a lot- ok, shadetree is more fitting, then. Learned a lot, and half of it probably wrong, or just accurate enough to get by most of the time. Yup, explains a whole lot.
Hoarders - OMG, I remember that show. We've watched a lot of them. That somehow seems to fit.

He followed one of his sons there who is stationed in the Army. Does some of the videos out of the driveway of his sons house there.

Scotty Kilmer has threatened to retire numerous times but he is an attention junkie and cannot just walk away from it.

I knew of him before Youtube fame when I lived in Texas and remember some of his public access TV stuff. Guy was a running joke back then but I was surprised when I saw him on YT and the success and following he had garnered. Probably the first time I learned that you do not have to be talented to succeed so long as you are entertaining.

LOL - the opposite of my mother. I used to accuse her of being from Missouri and not just southern Iowa as she was always the "prove it" person. If she doubted something, a "because I said so" wasn't going to cut it for her. She didn't care how big a star or how important you were.

Well, I coulda' been an actor, but I wound up here
I just have to look good, I don't have to be clear

Lived for 10 years in the "Show Me" state - St. Louis. Though no one in STL had that "show me" philosophy. ?
However the rural side of MO had that ingrained in the people.

That dude was really hard to watch and wrong about everything. ZF Friedrichshafen AG is out of Friedrichshafen Germany not Austria. The transmissions in the gas models are literally built in Kokomo,Indiana at a Chrysler plant under license. The diesel comes with a 100k mile warranty.

Yeah, he's a youtube sensation but never bothered to so much as google about the ZF transmission used by Jeep.
Takes seconds and you find all you want to know about these great transmissions.

I can't figure out where he got Austria. They are no longer part of the Third Reich and have been an independent country for the last almost 70 years, longer than I've been alive.

He could have found anything he wanted to know about these with one simple search.

the thing that gets me is the teenage girl-like attitude of his followers as if he's a pop star, some Justin whatever type. No one I saw questioned anything he said. Instead it was all "thank you for your wisdom and great insight, sir" types of posts unless I missed something.
I guess he serves a really great Kool-Aid. People were drinking it up by the gallon.

Speaking of back in the day public access, I miss the public radio show "Car Talk" Click and Clack the Tappet Brothers. Mostly sophomoric humor and a little touch of car advice. More entertainment than helpful information but that was their shtick and those dudes cracked me up.

I hope people took it as more entertainment because sometimes they were as accurate as Scotty.

I want to see a hell in the cell three way cage match between Kilmer, DeMuro, and Hoovie.

With the ring side announcing by Joe Rogan and Stoned Elon Musk.

Everyone's favorite YouTube mechanic reviewing a 2023 Gladiator.

Seems enamored with the ZF transmission and despises the Italian-made Diesel Ecoboost.

Now let the fun begin...
This guy doesn't know anything made it about 60 seconds before I had to shut the quack job down lol. I here all the hate on the ecodiesels but I'm 6 ecodiesel trucks in never replaced 1 motor over 500k mile combined. Not 1 major problem still have my 17 ram 1500 longhorn with 268k miles I bought with 132 miles on it still love it . ?
