E rated just a bit too stiff for my taste.

Last month I got rid of my stock 285 Falkens and bought 255-80-17E AT3W's at my local Discount Tire. I used the same model 255s on my 2020 max tow and liked them a lot, preferring the 8" wide tread instead of the stock Mojave 10" wide. I see that the new AT4W's are a little heavier, probably/mostly from the 3 ply sidewalls. They might ride stiffer, but be worth it if rocky trails are anticipated.

I think Id still get the AT3s now as they are proven and maybe get a discount.Who know if the AT4s are any better yet.Looks wise they seem to be pretty close.

I’ve run AT3W’s on the last two Jeeps and a Dodge. Best all around tire I’ve ever had, especially in the wet and icy stuff.

4W’s on now and loving them. The 3 ply sidewall is exactly what this tire needed.
Looking forward to hearing how they perform for you over time!

Agreed! A bit heavier and stiffer, but will perform better and be more reliable when aired down.

They look similar to a Hankook.

Just got a set of Open Country AT3's in this size. I really like them but would have probably waited for these knowing this.
I'm running the Open Country AT3 as well so far so good. I really liked my previous wildpeaks except they got so noisy around 25K miles. I am hoping that the AT3 fares a bit better but couldn't beat the wildpeaks in bad weather

Previously only available on the Wildpeak R/T and Wildpeak M/T, Falken has introduced their three-ply DURASPEC technology into the A/T4W (available on select sizes). This construction is stiffer and thicker compared to it's 2-ply counterpart, to endure harsh off-road conditions.
Agreed! A bit heavier and stiffer, but will perform better and be more reliable when aired down.
Just wondering ... is the "stiffer" claim something that Falken states or is it inferred from the change from a 2-ply to 3-ply sidewall?

For an off-road tire, a stiffer sidewall does not necessarily perform better off-road when aired down. Yes, the 3-ply sidewall is usually more robust and resists damage better (= more reliable). However, if the sidewall is indeed stiffer, it usually doesn't flex as well which compromises off-road traction.

20K miles is 36% of the 55K mileage warranty. Should you not expect to be getting that much less traction in snow versus new?
While I understand your point. They flat out suck for “wet” traction after 25k…. From a percent/ratio perspective, a tire with a 55k warranty shouldent be dicey when used 1/3 of its life…. ;)

What do you mean by suck? Do they spin on a rainy road, or did you hydroplane and get sideways?

I had 40k on my Wildpeak AT3's before I switched them out. Never noticed any noise increase. Rotated them every 5k.

Wish that were my case. They were rotated every 5K and I ditched them at 38K Miles. I have hearing loss so you know it was bad. My wife even was constantly telling me that the tires are getting louder and louder. I mean I know they will get louder but this had gotten exceedingly loud. It a daily driver and lots of cement freeways which were the worst in regards to producing noise. Asphault roads were not nearly as bad

Damn, that was not my experience. What PSI did you keep them at?
