I had two of these (new dog, new seat cover), and I think they’re the best. You can reconfigure them, hose them off, scrub them on the driveway with a brush. They come with a nice bag you can use for dog stuff.

Note: no hammock serves as a dog restraint. You need a crash-tested, crash-rated harness that’s attached to vehicle. I have a Kurgo crash harness, and auto zip line that gives the dog full roam of the back seat.

If what you bought doesn't work also check out dirtydog4x4. Been using their seat hammock in the Gladiator and previously their cargo area cover in a JK.

I gather the zip line attaches to the headrest posts. Is the harness your dog is in part of the restraint system or just his going for a roadtrip harness? Ours has a harness for walking but the lead hook is in the front.

You can attach the zip line to the seat belts but I find the headrests, up high, allow more movement of the seats, when the dog isn’t there. Also being up high, it’s out of the way, allowing him to move around the back seat without getting tangled. The headrests, are mandated to survive crashes so I think they’re adequate for holding the line. There’s a short tether between the zip line and the harness with a locking carabiner. I prefer a restraint like this to a cage or net to catch him if I crash. The tether and zip line live in the truck. And I just clip his harness into it.

The harness is Kurgo’s crash harness, but it works fine for general use. I use it as Donut’s main harness. I’ve also got a pack harness and flotation harness, but he uses this for most walks. It’s simple and comfortable and easy to take on and off.

Donut also has a Fi-compatible collar from Modern Icon, but I usually don’t attach his leash to his collar. I find a harness offers much better control and keeps him from flipping around pulling from his neck. Modern Icon actually makes repelling/jump rated harnesses, but they’re crazy expensive.

x2 on the Orvis one. The expensive one is tough and actually protects them from a sudden stop

UPDATE 01/15/2024

The hammock style dog bed from Amazon arrived; fits perfectly.

The hard floor provides a wide, stable platform. The platform measures 52 x 24 inches.

I ordered a 36 x 24 dog bed to throw on top of the platform. Should arrive tomorrow.

This setup will work a LOT better than the Kurgo seat covers I had on.

Please update here if it fits well. We currently use a hammock style with an inflatable seat extender so our GSD has more room. However this would give us some seat storage back if it works!
See update post above.

Looks great. I use my back seat so I can't use this design. That was quick (guess you are Prime?), I am still waiting for my 4knines cover to ship.

I have the 4knines hammock which has worked well for the most part. Only issue is here in Florida since it doesnt have a window or mesh, the rear AC vents get blocked and it obvious the pups are uncomfortable. Wish they would make a version with window or mesh.

I like making simple things so here is my simple solution.
The last pic is the Princess (55lb) loaded for a trip to Chik-Fil-A or DQ!!
For long trips we put down a bed comforter on top of the moving blankets.

We’ve had Labs pretty much straight for the past thirty years. Best one I’ve found that‘s in the Glad is from a company called 4knines. It is the hamock style, but Sailor doesn’t like to be isolated so I folded the front bit under the seat. We‘ve had it since we got the Glad in July of 22 and it has held up really well. I can even lift one side of the rear seat without ripping it. Ripping was a problem with the kurgos we had in my wife’s Q5. We’d go to flip the seat backs down and sooner or later the cover would tear.

Ever had any major spills/messes with it yet? Had an eye on it but concerned with its actual liquid resistance...

No we haven’t. But having had a previous Lab (a poop eater) upchuck a stomach
load of thawed “poopy pops” on the backseat of a new Silverado, I learned that the combination of stomach acid and redigested turd creates a smell that literally never goes away. So liquid imperviousness is a high priority at our house. From what I’ve seen from outings to the beach, and rainy days, it holds up very well from wet dog conditions. The present girl did not inherit the aforementioned aunt’s taste for recycled treats, nor another aunt’s tendency for car sickness, so I don’t have any real world data on how well it will hold up under adverse conditions.

That’s why I’ve taken to folding the forward part under the seat bottom.

I appreciate that "very graphic" feedback... oof!

I think I am between your cover choice or one of the Duluth models (Scouts Mudroom or the Convertible Seat Saver).
