Hello. New to this forum. Here to pose a question to JT owners.

I currently own a 21 JLU 4xe Rubicon. Factory ordered at 5% below invoice in March 2021. Paid under $45k after my $7,500 tax credit. A deal I’ll never be able to replicate thanks to the seemingly weekly price increases from Jeep. 42,000 miles on it. I’ve got a MOPAR Max Care warranty to take me to 2028 or 100,000 miles. Which is when they project the next Wrangler & Gladiator models to come out

I’m currently dealing with the hybrid battery recall and am not able to charge my Jeep. I’m working with Jeep Wave and am hopeful they will give me a rental soon but I’m not holding my breath. I’m not supposed to park near other vehicles or buildings, which is unrealistic. I drive around 50-80 miles a day for work so not being able to charge has made a big difference on my MPG. Thankfully, I get reimbursed for mileage. Currently averaging around 19MPG. I realize this is about what I’ll get in a JT.

I’m very tempted by the incentives on the 2023 Gladiators. More specially a Mojave. Plenty in stock near me for 20% below MSRP before any other negotiations. I’m hopeful that the incentives will get even better in the coming weeks. I would like the versatility of having a small truck bed, but I’m only really considering at this point because of my hybrid battery recall and because the prices have dropped so much on the 23 Gladiators.

I’m here in hopes that some people will talk some sense into me and tell me I shouldn’t be considering the switch. Prior to my recall and these tempting prices, my plan was to hold onto my Wrangler until 2028/100k miles and by that point I’d probably look into upgrading. I also know I’ll likely be kicking myself when the 4xe Gladiators come out next year… but I doubt they’ll be reasonably priced.

Any input is appreciated.

Short answer, no.

Long answer, they are substantially different vehicles. The 4xe is much more sporty, composed, better handling and way quicker.

The gladiators has a few advantages of a bed and tow rating, slightly better in the wind, and a roomier back seat for passengers.

If you don't need a bed, or the roomier back seat, the wrangler is just an overall better vehicle for the average use cases. This is coming from a 2 jeep home where we have both a gladiator and a 4xe jl.

Im also affected by the recall, but I still charge it, there have been 3 fires total I believe and I'm just not honestly worried about it. If it goes up, it goes up but I'm willing to take my chances given the odds.

I was charging outside every so often but the cold weather was destroying my electric range anyway so I stopped. I have thought about the difference in power. I assume it will be quite noticeable. This is the type of response I was looking for lol. But if the JTs continue to drop in price the temptation is going to be there.

Mojave was my second choice. It wasn’t my first choice because they don’t make a diesel Mojave. The diesel has all the torque I need to do whatever I need to do, and I’ve got a truck bed. The JT is definitely a love it or hate it rig, and I’m not sure how much longer they’re going to keep making them, so I’m doing my best to hang onto this one. Wranglers are on every corner, Gladiators aren’t as abundant in my area.

I forgot to mention that I’m driving around a 3 year old and a 9 month old. Not sure if that changes anything or not. I know the 24s have the updated safety features but the 23s don’t.

I’m currently dealing with the hybrid battery recall and am not able to charge my Jeep.
Was yours actually a part of the recall, confirmed on the Jeep dot com or NHTSA site?
We've got a JLU 4xe (2023) and charge it any time it's at home.
The battery issue will be resolved and fixed soon.
Seems to me you have the ideal driving situation for a PHEV - we routinely run 25 miles on battery only and then on hybrid power. My wife went 500 miles, 1 day short of 3 months on about 9.8 gallons of gas.
She's done an accurate (my calculations) 40 mpg at other times. TORQUE beyond belief.
You'll be disappointed in a 3.6 after driving a Wrangler 4xe.

I have need for a truck, so I have a JT
My wife needs a Jeep that will get her through, carry her quilting stuff and get good mpg.
So she's got a 4xe and loves it.

It depends on what you NEED, no one can tell you otherwise. If they say yes, it's because they want to have others think and choose like them and they believe it's the best possible solution. For them it is. But for you, is it??

The 4xe thing will be resolved. Over 100,000 of them sold. Only a handful of fires - even though many continued to charge theirs because they don't hang out on Jeep forums hanging on every recall post. Think of the thousands of 4xe owners who had no idea until they got a recall notice - and continued to charge and drive as always.

It's your money, your choice. Don't let anyone sway you based on their own personal choice. That's really a piss-poor reason to decide to buy something.

23 is the same as 22 - nothing better for safety until 2024 model year.

unfortunately yes. I learned last week that they opened a department specifically for this recall and there are rumblings that Jeep is starting to provide rentals.

If you need or want a truck, sure. Honestly for me I could never go back to not having a bed.

If you like your 4XE and don't need a truck, just get it fixed and keep driving.

I drove a '24 4XE recently and can't say I understand the hype. Maybe the battery was dead in this one or something else. Didn't seem to have some surplus of power that my 3.6 was lacking. Hopefully if I get a chance to drive another it's a different experience.

I have a 3.6 JT and a 4xe JLU.
When that JLU is in 4HA, the torque is crazy and INSTANT. There's no winding up RPM, no waiting - it will plant you back in the seat.

With the transfer case in 2H, torque is limited so it's not quite as strong, but still - you can beat some pretty good vehicles on a drag strip with a 4xe.
The HP and torque ratings are higher than a 5.7 if I recall correctly.
MPG blows a gladiator away in the type of driving the OP would be doing.

It's also amazing in rough terrain - instant constant torque to get over things. It will whomp a 3.6 off-road. Check some of the videos out there.

We are talking taking a driving trip down to your state - but my wife said - only if we take my JT. Otherwise, we'd be down there with her 4xe and there'd be your chance. But she said never again, not that many miles on her Jeep.
