Front bumper steel. Mid width , full size or stubby

Hi. What’s one of the best and worst steel bumpers ? What are advantages of stubby over full width? What brand hold up to rust, what is best For salt air, galvanized? Rhino coating? Powder coat? Is pull bar a must? I assume they all will take a winch. Thanks

I read something somewhere about the weight of front bumpers having an effect on the fox shock suspension put in the Mojaves. It's why they put the cheaper plastic bumper on the 2nd from most expensive model. If true; i'd shoot for an aluminum one.

yup its true. especially when you add a winch. MP makes an aluminum variant of the mopar steel. thats what i'll be upgrading to. needs a better winch plate tho, probably will end up welding reinforcements to it rather than finding a replacement.

Stubby bumpers are great when you have to disconnect your sway bar links.
Mopar makes a heavy one that requires a separate winch plate to hold a winch.

I put the Arcus on my Mojave and after a diet from its original addition with 12k winch of over 100 lb, I got it to an addition of about 70 lb, which seems good. No noticeable sag and the Jeep doesn't bottom out the suspension on every bump anymore. In short, the Arcus hooks are heavy and either cut them down or get the SHD recovery points to save 11 lb. Use 90 ft of 3/8 synthetic line instead of the HF 65' of cable to save another 15 or so lb. That also means going to a light aluminum hawse instead of the roller fairlead. Arcus comes with a good winch plate that ties into the frame well. Aluminum bumpers like Rock Hard are good but quite expensive.

I went with the ARB full width because it gave the look it wanted. My JK has a mid-width. I love the stubby look, but for primarily on road rigs I prefer slightly better protection/coverage.

You can put the 2024 Mojave X springs on a 2020-2023 Mojave and run the OEM steel bumper with 0 penalty.
