Anyone that attempts to calculate a jeep’s mpg for any reason other than to figure out how far up a trail they can go before having to turn around. So they are not stranded. I.e. you not doing it to see your daily commute mpg. You should sell it and never buy another. Jeeps were never designed to be fuel efficient. Like asking John Force where he puts the golf clubs in his funny car……Or asking Dale Earnhardt if his car had air bags……(too early?) I will take any race bet with ev’ s on a distance run i.e. (cannonball run).

Must be nice, in our part of Florida I'm at 700 bucks a month summer 360 a month in winter. Duke energy can suck my 8@115
Dude! Either you live in a freaking gigantic house, or you need better insulation and a better heat pump! That's insane! Our house *is* only ~1500 sf, but it's fairly well insulated and we've replaced all the windows with double paned glass.

Are you on teco or Duke? Teco is much much better rates than Duke who has basically doubled my rate in 10 years. I used to pay 350-400 summer and 150ish winter.

The house isn't helping in that the previous owners replaced a stone tile roof with shingles so the amount of heat that makes its way in is horrible, but the rate is also not helping. Roof is 10 years old now, when I replace it I plan on throwing solar on top to both help insulate from heat and also offset electric charges.

Sometimes I'm thankful ours is only 1100 sq ft - my wife want's something much larger with a more open floor plan, but then the extra cost to heat and cool and clean and insurance and taxes.......... and I'm too old and have things too set to think of moving now.
The small space and cheap electric make it affordable.
It's just the 6 of us now anyway.

Everyone here is on shingles - or steel roofing (the new thing around here, besides all of the pole buildings going up to be homes. Now those are nice)

Title 24 R-20, double pane everywhere, radiant barrier on roof decking.....1850 feet = 900/mo to run the AC on grid power. Solar saves me a fortune.

Yeah, we're on TECO power. I had no idea Duke energy was that much more expensive. We replaced our leaky roof ~8yrs ago with a metal roof, over an insulated rubber mat, over plywood, which covers a large attic space with an attic fan at one end which automatically cuts on at 100*+ temps (which is basically most of march-november). Under that is R19 insulation over an additional hard ceiling, then a ~2' space, and then a traditional 8' sheet rock ceiling, so we have minimal heat/AC loss through the ceiling. Frame home originally built in '48, so the outer walls are just normal frame home wood construction, and the flooring is hard wood underneath with either carpet or tile throughout. No insulation below the floor, so it's our biggest liability for heating/cooling cost. But we do keep the AC at ~76* all summer, and the heat at ~70* during the winter. Ceiling fans throughout obviously.

I totally agree with Bigbry though... how does the average Joe Blow afford Solar & an EV while struggling to pay rent/mortgage, and support a family? They don't/can't. I know I sure couldn't have while we were raising our kids. Totally different now that they're grown, gone, and on their own, and we're completely debt free.

Rich? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA, I can't stop laughing! Rich, now that's rich.
Ouch, I feel a bit of - well.......... in all of that.
You think someone like me is rich? Come for a visit - check out our older 1,100 square foot house and what we eat (bargain foods)
It's a matter of choices. Sure, I might have a certain bit of "envy" hiding in remote parts of my head when I see some of the stuff some members do or have or whatever - but it's the human part trying to poke through when my logic says - I have no clue about them, really. I don't know their choices, circumstances, how hard they have or have not worked, family situations and more. I don't have a clue. Frankly, I am happy for them. Land of equal opportunity, not the land of equal outcomes.
I'm where I am because of some stupid choices, being indecisive, and yeh, some can be blamed on an inherited condition that really screwed up things through life - but I don't place blame on anyone else. (statistically, I should be dead, or in a pretty dire situation)

I am figuring our income tax stuff now - adding up the costs of upgrading the garage panel and installing the level 2 charger and so on............ roughly 400 for the charger, about 300 for the installation. And we used credit cards and spread it out over time.

I can't see this as a debate - no more than steam vs. gas vs. horse vs. electric over 100 years ago.

Transition times are always rough. When a big storm hits, you don't curse the storm, you turn the ship into the waves, survive it.

Title 24 R-20, double pane everywhere, radiant barrier on roof decking.....1850 feet = 900/mo to run the AC on grid power. Solar saves me a fortune.
People may be shocked - and me, yeah, I see some of these numbers and WOWWOW! but then, CoL.
Our cheap house would cost 2 or 3 times what it's worth in other places, but then the wages in those areas hopefully offset things, too.
People see me post about our cheap gas and electric prices - yeah, we have wages to match! I never got past 70-some thou in my whole working life.
I spent 2 years as an electrician for PFG - 13K/year. I finally made it up to 16K in about 1991 when I left there. My wife was a secretary her whole life - you can imagine how well that paid.
But that doesn't make me angry or bitter or dislike those who are in different circumstances - it is what it is, I'm lucky to be alive and doing as well as I am and that's where I like to leave it.
More isn't always better.

I went to exactly one HS reunion - I believe it was the 10 year. There were those elites who always seemed happy, always got the girl, destined to go placed, do big things, climb up high and be extremely successful.
After a while at that reunion - it was really sad. The elites, the brains, the most popular kids in our HS class were the saddest - some divorced, drinking, between jobs or in jobs they didn't like at all - while we geeks, shop monkeys, the lesser class in HS were the happiest- showing off pics of family, kids, jobs they actually liked, the happiest of them all. Wow, it was a real eye-opener. I really felt bad for the popular and successful achievers from our class - what a sad group.

Hmm. Blue Jeeps Red Jeeps. Very subtle. The actual tax is 0.25 per gallon (which is a lot and I agree we always fill up when passing through Carson City). The solutions to solar power needed at night are numerous and include many very simple things other than batteries. Pumping water to a storage tank located above another collection area to then provide a steady stream of water to provide power. The solutions to the problem that stumps you are out there. Hope the Red Jeeps aren’t being driven by undercover Russian operatives because it sure looks that way. Cheers…

Agreed but in a world in which we are "all created equal" there are some more equal than others!

@BigBry I don't know where that anger came from? If I were you, which I am clearly not and not try to make a comparison, I would turn off the TV and talk radio and get out more. Meet people outside your usual circle of friends and see how we ALL live. In S. TX we wear a lot of red neckties but in my neck of the woods we are ALL friends and we ALL live together happily without the overt anger and envy. Chill and relax! The world is so much more!

Really? Recognizing the need for low cost power, energy independence, and efficient transportation makes someone a Russian operative?

Drill baby drill.

Dunno, I just saw this guy driving a JT and I think he's a forum member?

Animal Farm.

Or they believe as much......

It's an eye-opener when you get WAAAY outside of the normal circle.

Working at CCC and getting to know some of the people there gave me my first real taste - and I wanted to know more.
Then at PFG there was another mix of people from around the world. I learned how quickly Americans became really nasty and ready to round up anyone who looked different as I was there during 9-11 and saw how things turned nasty even in the company.

Still trying to figure out where ythe handle comes from - I've seen nothing offensive so far, it doesn't seem to fit.

False. We are saving $6,000/year as all charging is done at home on a paid for solar array. Insurance is about the same as my Mojave. A Model Y RWD is 36k brand new. The $7500 is taken at point of sale as of now. I couldn't care less about image or 'green' anything.

The fact is the Model Y saves us a shitload of money given our driving habits. Numbers crunched.

All you did is make a bunch of assumptions based on your personal opinion and not actual experience.

How much of the savings on the EV's is in avoiding the gas tax or has CA closed that loophole? Eventually the states will start sending bills to EV owners for miles driven to reclaim the lost gas tax revenue. I take it CA has some pretty high gas taxes that if factored in would reduce the savings a bit.
