This is really for anyone new to owning a JT that wants a quick video tutorial on changing out your own oil. It is really simple to do and there are two main benefits:

1. You get to know your JT better.
2. It can save you both time and money.

In this short video I walk you through the simplicity of the oil and filter change. Hope this is helpful for anyone brand new to the Gladiator that is considering doing it for the first time. ~ Eric

Not a bad thing, I did a lookup recently on how to remove the plastic oil filter housing. Yea I have a few ways but wanted to make sure I did damage that chunk of plastic. Will watch it just in case there is anything I should know despite doing the oil changes on my JK for that last 15 years.

Nothing super fancy in there. It is pretty straight forward. Really for those that have never done it before or are curious about doing it on their own for the first time. The biggest thing in my opinion is to use the 24mm socket for the oil filter housing cap. Some people try and get by with the standard 15/16 but it is just off enough to cause you problems with the plastic cap and curl those corners which is no bueno and will cause much more of a heartache moving forward. ~ Eric

You can go to many home centers or parts stores and pick up a 6 point 24mm socket - great investment if you don't have one.
I've got years of sockets - but if I didn't already have, it's worth the price. You don't need a Snap-On socket for this.

Agreed. I just went to a local "ferreteria" in Arequipa, Peru. No real name brands, and if they are, they are often knock offs here just stamped with a name brand. Nonetheless they are still measured precisely and get the job done.

Honestly, the oil change on the JT is the easiest of any vehicle I've ever owned. Cake.

It's not tough by any means - but it's not as easy as my car - filter screws onto the side of the block and drains into the same pan that's under there catching the oil from the oil pan drain.
Slide pan under car, take out drain plug, stand up (after getting out from under car, of course!) and swap out the oil filter, get back under car and put drain plug in - done. (uh, don't forget to put oil back in, of course)

No o-ring, no plastic bits, you can see the filter and what oil comes out of the spin-on cartridge goes into the drain pan below.
Many choices of good filters, even at Walmart.
The only wrench needed is for the drain plug below.

I have a 12 point 24mm, might pick up a 6 point when I am out warming it up running errands tomorrow. Plan the first oil change tomorrow when I get back. Almost 800 miles on it.

Never had one like that, very nice. I think I had the job done in the JT in under 15 minutes.

I have boxes of those. Use the for changing oil, putting finish on my wood projects and other chemical needs. Best thing to get from Harbor Freight. I like the 7mm.
I use rubber gloves for my “wood projects“ too. Ha.

30”x46” walnut desk top.
