Imagine my surprise when I got in my Gladiator Mon. morning and discovered that the time had automatically updated for the switch to DST.
The truck is a base model '23, no XM radio. I didn't know it was capable of receiving signals, beyond the AM/FM radio.

Where is the receiving antenna?

I see others refer to their trucks getting computer updates over the airwaves, is mine capable of receiving updates the same way?
I'd prefer to control when and what is updated on my truck, is this something that can be unplugged until I want to use it?

there should be two black pucks/boxes on top of the brace/speaker bar behind your head. They are standard on all gladiators and what house the Satellite and 4GLTE service functionality.

Thanks, I suspect it will require removing the top to access these.
Not a bad thing mind you, it's one more reason to do it.

It occurs to me that if I unplug those boxes my cell phone pairing will probably not function.
I don't use it normally but do like the ability. Something to keep in mind.

I was directed to this link by another website:

It may be the FM radio that updated the clock.

You are assuming it needed to receive a signal to do that. Daylight saving time isn't some randomly picked every year. It always occurs on the second Sunday of March and ends on the first Sunday of November. That is simple enough to program in, no need for any external connection, and I believe there is a setting buried in the menus to turn DST on or off.

There is a setting for this in the head unit. Likely updating time from GPS.

It will also automatically adjust for time zone changes as you drive. It's actually a nice feature, I don't see the problem.

It's definitely receiving some data to do this, it's not pre-programmed (when the DST change happens has not always been the same, they can and have changed), but that's all it does is receive. I mean heck, if the info is there, why not take advantage of it?

Having just gotten my vehicle back from a long spa visit at the dealer I had to reprogram a lot of the features in settings. There is a menu for this somewhere but I cannot remember where - anyway, the time is set automatically by the vehicle depending on GPS location.

Yeah with technology the way it is, unplugging our vehicles does nothing to eliminate being monitored. Not when you also carry a cell phone everywhere you go. Hell theses things listen to every word we say, know everywhere we go and know everything we type. Not to mention the 100's of millions of cameras everywhere. I'll just leave my vehicles plugged in for the convenience they offer. I have my old 75 GMC if I need to go off the grid ?. I realize the OP didn't say that was the reason to want to disconnect but that's usually why people want too. As far as receiving updates, they are usually pushed out to fix discovered issues or gaps to make the experience better/easier for us the consumers.

For clarity (on vacation this week) I went out to my vehicle and checked the Time settings. It seems to be managed by your location and I assume that if you uncheck "Sync Time ... " DST may not change?

Here's what mine looks like

Funny, I noticed my clock was off this morning. I was just in that menu and found the box unchecked. I updated the time manually, but I'll go ahead and check the box.

Idk if i'd unplug it. it may throw a code. Plus it will disable your SOS emergency function. As a person who is only here today because that system works. I'd leave it be. Plus it allows authorities and yourself to track the vehicle if its stolen. Also u would access it by pull the trim down, and going in through the bottom. also it will only update your headunit, not your ecm or tcm if thats what your worried about. personally im a fan that my truck can tell me my exact lat and long with no service and satellite call emergency services as well. nice features a lot of people pay out the ass for on a garmin when out in the back country.

It also probably syncs time and location data from your cell phone when that is connected.

I'll have to check my truck to see if I have this check box. The truck doesn't have GPS but I suppose that doesn't mean it doesn't have this ability.

PuddleJumper mentioned the SOS emergency function, is this standard on every Gladiator?
Mine is a base Sport with hardtop, Max Tow and a roll up tonneau cover, no upgrades to the tech.

They can, but they havent been changed since 2007. Even totally unconnected devices such as employee time clocks and computer operating systems have had the dates built in for ages.

Before I retired, we had a time clock that would now be 30 yrs old. Before 2007 change, the manufacturer offered a way to reprogram the that old clock with the new dates. Was just a few button presses in a developer menu. Not that hard.

OK, that's all great and dandy when you have direct access to locally-hosted software. That's not how it works on these trucks though, so it's a moot point...

Especially when not all areas observe DST, and even that can and has changed over the years, yet the truck knows when to apply or not apply it anyway.

Simplest answer is the correct one: it pulls it from the freely-accessible GPS data.
