I've shown this before, but since two other Scamps and a Casita, I'll repost
Camp (2).jpg
I've had five Scamps since 1980, two 13', two 16' and briefly, a 19' fifth wheel. They're great trailers. I towed one of the 16s with a Honda Element.

Here's when we picked up our 2023 ModernBuggy 12LRK back in October with my 21 Max Tow. I'll get some new pics this weekend with my 23 Punkn Rubi.

Ours didn't come with the roof top tent. Couldn't get it in the garage if it did. The Awning in the image of it setup is an Overland Vehicle Systems 180. We love it. On the other side we have an A R B awning room. We also added a 5lb Propane tank and mount.

Wow... so jealous of you guys. So it seems you need somewhere around 25k - 30k to get in the game pretty decent, unless you find a used barn find.

Does that sound about right ? Anyone have suggestions for a cheaper/begginer model that would atleast be comfortable ?
Buy something used, would be my recommendation. I was just checking out those new Aliner Evolution popups. $55k msrp for that? My brain can't even comprehend it.

If you take a realistic inventory of what you really NEED in a camper, and you spend some time shopping them both online and in person, once you settle on something that looks like it'll work for you there will always be deals to be had on a lightly used trailer. Here's one example of a 2021 Hitch 16RD (like DylanM's from post #40 in the thread) that seems to be a pretty good buy at $15k.

Conqueror UEV 490 sleeps 4, about 4600 lbs. max. with gear and 40 gal. of water. JTR on 37's, just regeared to 5:13 which made for a much better towing experience, ( spent a lot of time in 3rd and 4th gear, never got above 6th gear with 4:10 gears ). I haven't been able to enjoy remote locations yet, but looking forward extended stays in the middle of nowhere. Picked it up in Utah and drove back home to CA., a couple of local campouts here and there, it towed great from day one.

We just bought the JT about 3 weeks ago…..and took a ‘test’ run with the boat. It towed nicely (as expected). 2024 Mojave…. The boat weighs about 3,500lbs. We’ll be fishing almost every weekend all summer. Can’t wait…

I had that same boat for awhile, towed it with my WK2. The boat is aluminum and weighs like 900lbs total, and barely gets to a ton with trailer included. Are you carrying 1500lbs of gear with you? 3500 is a ton of weight for a 17’ aluminum boat!

Same... I see xxx micro or tear drop basically anything really small and BAM ! 25k

Ran into a guy selling a nice one, but still 15k... I'm looking for something much less, at this rate for the $, I would get a plastic Walmart bag to carry my ? in... ?

Funny, thing is, when I was still active, I knew a few people that worked building them(several were women) one person would build out the whole unit start to finish... it took them no time at all. Watching how they did it, definitely doesn't justify the prices... its "we Gotcha" what else, where else are you going to get it type deal.

What are you looking for in a travel trailer? I started with this home built trailer (not built by me) that worked great for my son and I. I only upgraded to the ModBug so that my wife will get out more with me. This one has room for storing a lot of gear in it and the tent is up off the ground but not super high. I added the 35 inch KO2’s so she has plenty of ground clearance to go wherever. I bought it off FB marketplace a few years ago, now she is back there for the next adventurer.

When I bought my ModBug, I made a trip to PA to buy it, there is a local to me dealer that had one for sale for 26K then lowered to 24K. I went to General RV in PA and bought mine for 15K. I saved over 8K for a day trip, and was able to use it immediately and get some more Badge of Honor trails done.
