Don’t let 4WP work on your Jeep

So, and no I don’t know why I didn’t notice, I noticed my winch was not centered.

Hmmm weird. So I googled it up to see if maybe I was missing something.

Well lo and behold there are winches that are off set and need to be moved right some. So winch plate manufacturers provide holes for this.

My winch is not off set.

But yet was mounted this way. Ok OCD kicks in going to drive me crazy. I pull the skid plate off and bumper….

Hmmmm 4 bolts on the back of the winch plate. Ya know to anchor down the 1000’s of pounds of pulling force. They are ummmm loose?! Not a little, just click the video!

So yes centered the winch, tighten down the 4 bolts, double checked everything else.

You can yell at me! At the time I was busy and they had a sale on for installed winches.

Yup, they replaced the 4WP store here in town. I went in once and it reminded me of a dilapidated truck stop. Haven't been back.

I don’t like the 4WP here in Vegas either. The guys would do a lot of talking down.

4 wheel parts did front and rear gears and lockers on my TJ and even swapped my front driveshaft with a new one for free after I complained about driveline vibrations. I’d have no problem letting them work on my jeep. Unfortunately the local 4WP is no longer under the same name and is now owned by some other company.

Josh, looks like this loose bolts have lock nuts on them but bolts might not have been long enough to engage the plastic of the lock nut, there should be at least a thread past the plastic ring. What you just had happen is why a lot of us do a lot ourselves we are not trying to get done fast , or about
the money or taking short cuts…..Jack

Please check those bolts and get longer proper grade ones if they short.

Oh they tightened right up just fine.

They just loose fit everything and just forgot to tighten them.

They are the worst. Used them once ten years ago and had horrible experience gave them another try due to them having a part I couldn’t find anywhere else. I thought for sure they got there stuff together. Sure enough it was a huge disappointment. How are they still in business?

I went to them over the holidays to figure out an alignment issue. They cracked a lug nut on one wheel leaving the base of the nut on the lug and said ‘oops it can’t be removed now’, and instead of fixing the alignment just ‘recentered the steering wheel’ without solving the pulling issue, while still charging full price for an alignment. I was not impressed.

Thankfully my local dealer service department where I bought the vehicle is incredibly helpful and got me all squared away, going above and beyond.

What I’ve learned is that a mechanic that cares is equally important to a mechanic that specializes. It can be difficult to find both in a single shop.

Josh, I noticed that you are another fellow Veteran.... well as you know the job of NCO's is to follow-up on what the troops do, make sure it's done and correct.
A big reason I don't like anyone else to touch my vehicles I don't trust anyone else. To many untrained monkeys who work in shops, that don't know what or care about doing the jobs. ?
There is good shops still available but finding them. Ratings be damned, you definitely need to actually read them and filter out the B.S. reviews from BOTs and paid.

I've seen many of the legacy Off-road shops / companies standards have dropped. This has happened before the A. F##### funded flu, many of the off-roading companies owned by O.G's that were avid off-roaders and have now passed the company to stockholders or family. Now their concern is the $$$ not the customer or employees.

The Orlando location did my wheels, tires, and leveling kit about a year and a half ago; zero issues for me.
