I've been cross shopping (more like cross-surfing) the JT Diesel, 2019 Ram Diesel, 2019 Silverado straight 6 turbo diesel (only American made 1/2 ton/mid-size diesel) , and the F150 with the Duramax. I did not consider the Titan XD diesel, as it is not economical and only on the XD frame, nor the Colorado/Canyon twins 4 cyl diesel (made in Thailand and assembled in Mexico).

Based on what I have seen so far, I believe none of the big 3 intend for the diesel to be a true mainstream offering. The Big 3 are packaging diesels into certain trim levels with heavy premiums. I fear Jeep will do the same with the JT. I get the 3.0 Turbo diesel motors are somewhat more expensive to manufacture than a naturally aspirated V6, based on the ignition system and limited production numbers, but they are commonly standard offerings in South American, Europe, and Australia, which leads me to believe the additional costs should be somewhat reasonable, perhaps 1k more to manufacture. The Ranger sold overseas has had a diesel as the standard option for years and continues even as the US Ranger will roll out with a Turbo 4 gas motor. Perhaps the manufactures don't feel they have enough mechanics or have invested too heavily in the turbo 4 cyl gas motors for the US market. It's clear, we just aren't going to get what we want without paying a major premium (which conveniently negates the fuel savings for most consumers). GM and Ford are pushing smaller turbos (4cy standard in LT/RST/Elevation trims, 2.7 standard on F150), and up-charging for V8s and diesel. The F150 requires the Lariat and above trim package (unless Fleet buyer) to order a diesel. Ford is reportedly expecting the Powerstroke in the F150 to only make up 5% of F150 sales. Ram hasn't firmed up a 2019/2020 diesel release yet and doesn't appear to be inclined to do so, and GMC is only offering the diesel in the SLT/Denali trim. Chevrolet will be the only manufacture offering the diesel in a mid-level trim (LT) until the Ram finally rolls out.

The whole process of waiting for a diesel in a 1/2 ton or mid-size truck that actually comfortably fit 4 adults has become anti-climatic to say the least. The F150 diesel is putting out incredible fuel economy/towing/payload numbers and clearly would be a big seller with only a 2k premium if available in all trims. However, to get the Powerstroke it's really a 9k premium over an XLT (mid-trim). GM is rolling the 2019s out but no word on when the diesel will be released or what the numbers are. Frankly, I'll be stunned if the JT diesel is available at roll out. It's clear all three manufactures could put out diesel options in the 2k to 3k range if they were committed to doing so., but they do not seem inclined to do so.

No…… 6500lbs is what I have seen on Jays semi official documents. More than enough to tow a JK :like:.
Part I don't get though is why is the tow rating the same no matter which engine. Take any other pick-up as an example and the rating changes based on engine, So EcoD should pull a lot. However, other docs say it will only have ClassII hitch.

Anyway, all speculation until official info comes out....

Sorry I'm dyslexic can never keep my numbers straight. I was looking for the info on the tow rating but could not relocate it. I think the reason why the tow rating is the same for all drive trains is the wheels base.

Thanks, I had forgotten. Was hoping it would be over 6k. 6500 lbs is doable for me. Hoping the torque will pull at lower rpms than the V6s, making towing more enjoyable.

Will this have heated/ventilated seats, heater steering wheel and heated mirrors? It gets cold in Wisconsin.
I doubt it will have vented seats. It will have heated seats and steering wheel. I don't remember about the mirrors.

Keep in mind this is a wrangler based truck, you know open top, rain, and off road capable. Its not a luxury vehicle. I know its cold in Wisconsin. I drove that YJ in my profile pic all through high school in Wisco and in college in MN, no heated seats, hell it had zipper windows and no power locks. Still the most fun vehicle I have ever had.

Plenty of $50,000 vehicles have heated and ventilated seats. Ventilated doesn't mean air conditioned.

Hot summer, top down, on the trail. Who wouldn't want air blowing on their crotch? Lol

My jetta had heated mirrors and heated seat, hardly luxury. Our Pacifica minivan has ventilated seats.

All true but a few things to consider. There are NOT plenty of vehicles at $50k or not that have a SFA, front and rear lockers, capable of taking 35s without a lift, 4:1 crawl ratio in the tcase, and come with extra skid plates. These are things I would like to see my $50k go towards. Heated steering wheel and lane assist.... ok I guess if its included.

Number 2, don't ever compare a Jeep Wrangler, JT, or Xj to a Pacificia. Maybe the Patriot or Compass, maybe.

LMAO, did I insult your manliness? I'll be owning a scrambler AND Pacifica. Both near $50k new.
Not insulted at all. They are each very different vehicles for different purposes. They each have their place, but I don't think they should compared. Here is what your logic is saying to me: "I paid 90k for my Porsche 911 and only 35k for my Honda Pilot. I can't believe the 911 didn't come with 3 rows of seats, I mean they were able to do that in Pilot for less money". I get this is an extreme example but that is more less what I hear you saying.

I would not be surprised if at some point the Gladiator or the JLU came with Ventilated Seats. I know there is the water line were they keep everything at a certain height. But I never thought that I would see an 8.4" screen with NAV in a wrangler either and it's an option. I don't know if it will be right away but I think ventilated seats is something we will see, some people drive a wrangler to go offload and some drive one because they like it, there will always be options that to appeal to both.

Well said, I love my rubi and its off-road capability but understand there are also people that just love the look as well. I think that Jeep should move the Sahara trim level to more of a luxury line for the later.
