The strength of the bed is directly proportional to the size of the tires and lift under it. If you run 42s, you can literally drop another Gladiator into your Gladiator’s bed and haul it vertically up a tree. This has been proven many times on YouTube.
Hmmm... like this perhaps?

anybody remember this?

I do. There was also another one they did the same thing using some vintage Snap On hand carry tool box that was considered one of the heaviest ever made for a hand carry tool box.

Basically Chevy just made a engineered fail test using two of the heaviest hand carry tool boxes ever made and that nobody in the modern era uses as a contractor.

Portions of the bed are made of aluminum, and with CAFE standards everything has to be made lighter.

I haul a lot of firewood, and I toss it in, I don't have the time to put it in gently.

What's the saying about how much wood would a woo chuck chuck?

I chuck the wood!

I've had spray in liners, they are purty, but don't last if you use your truck like a truck.

Too the constant returns for touch ups get old.

I put a drop in liner shortly after buying it.

It's been in close to four years.

There's a wive's tale about them causing wear to the bed and causing corrosion.

A falsehood, I've been using drop ins for years.

Pulled it out at the beginning of this season, clean as new.

Prior to reinstall just like prior to first installation I put a heavy coat of unbuffed past wax on the bed.

Rugged Liner, at the time $199.00 installed.

In todays' economy I'm sure it has gone up.

This is what I’m doing. My only question is I have the factory utility rails. Do you think I could modify/cut some of it to work with the rails? Thanks.

If you're going to abuse your truck like that, something like this will help... a lot. You REALLY have to abuse it hard to dent it through a drop-in bedliner. I carried a cord at a time for three years in my '77 F250 SuperCab. It had a plastic bedliner and the bed never did dent.

Thank you!! That’s the ticket. Does under rail design mean it will fit u see my factory bed rails? I have the cargo rails installed.

$200 bucks for a quality bed liner... probably would have saved you from a few dents.
Yes you’re right. I don’t mind the dents as it’s a truck but I’m goi g to get one to prevent further damage.

I figure they learned a lot when they sued Dateline about the saddle tanks.

I don't have one, so I can't really tell you anything about it. I just found the company in an online search and their product is similar to what I had in my '77 F250 in the late '80s. I'd suggest you contact them for exact fitment details.

Back in the early 70's. Dick Cepek used advertise their winches by showing different vehicles hanging from trees.

You want to damage a truck bed. Have a steering box off a big truck with the pitman arm and ball joint attached. Then hit the brakes hard. The ball joint stud went through the front of my bed. It put dents and holes in a lot of places. Had a Rugged Liner too.

84 Hi-lux with drop in bed liner. 4 speed cast iron Hydromatic that was set in a tire but not properly strapped. Hit the brakes hard, no holes but the tail shaft pushed the bed into the cab and dented the cab.
I thought it was coming through! My brother had strapped it down, but not front to back.

I've thrown a lot of wood in my bed and no issues. I got the spray in bed liner because I know that I use my bed. If you're going to use your bed, should make sure to protect it. My old Ranger didn't have any bed liner and it was very much dented (not that I cared, was old and already dented when I got it). If you plan on using your truck like a truck, just have to prepare.
