Hey everyone. I'll be having my JTRD regeared next week using Spicer gears. I reached out to Spicer Gears about the correct break in procedure following a regear. They just got back to me with the following:

Hello Karol, just heard back: There is no break in period or oil change necessary after 500 when using genuine Dana Spicer gears. Heavy towing should be avoided if possible.

This makes sense, as there is no break in procedure for new Gladiators, at least not from what I have come across or read in the owner's manual.

I put in Dana Spicer 5:13 gears. They should be super quiet right when you pull out from the shop. If they make any noise, there is an installation problem.

Mine were perfectly installed. I changed the oil around 500 miles and there was a very small amount of metal powder on the magnet of the rear diff. Basically, the same amount of metal powder that was on the original dana spicer 4:10 gears when I changed the fluid around 1000 miles or so....

I think you should change the fluid between 500 and 1000 miles just to make sure that there is no issue, ie. no big pieces or chunks, etc... , and to get rid of that small amount of metal powder that is inevitable for new gears. The front will basically have negligible metal powder on the magnet.

BTW, my installer recommended I switch to Mopar 75w-140 for my 5:13 gears and my nodular iron diff covers, which is what Jeep recommends for towing....

Those were my thoughts too, I will probably still go ahead with the fluid change just for the peace of mind that everything is looking good. I'm switching to 75W-140 as well.

Yeah, I have 48K miles on my gears now with 75w-140 and no problems. Lots of tough off-roading on rocks.

I had the dana Spicer gears installed when I went to 4.88s . They had a special coating on them so there was no break in or oil change needed. that was a few months and a few thousand miles ago. No issues. Silent gears. I run Torco 85-140 RGO (non synthetic) same as Currie uses.

I had Dana 5:13’s put in my JL and my installer said the same thing. He said I could do burnouts in the parking lot and it wouldn’t matter. If they are installed right they will be fine.
They have been in for a couple thousand miles at this point and are as quiet as the original gears.

Thats cus a Mojave manual has half the towing capacity of the auto. Less possible stress on the diff, lighter oil for efficiency is usable. I run 75w-90 in the front and 75w-140 in the rear on mine. But mines an auto and see much higher diff temps since i regularly tow at or near max capacity.

I think you misread @Desirayray's post. He said he downloaded the Mojave owners manual not the manual for a manual transmission Mojave lol. I don't think there's separate manuals either way.

I believe it's actually a Dana recommendation. Haven't found anything yet however.

Your right its only separate by model year. I forget where in manual or if its in a different book. Its suggest different oils and more frequent service intervals for heavy/extreme duty cycles. IE extensive towing, off-roading or dusty/muddy environments.

On my 2020 JTR, it recommends Mopar 75w-140 for towing. In addition, I am running Metalcloak Nodular iron diff. covers which I guess because of their thickness hold in more heat... So far, it has proven prudent to run the thicker diff oil -- 48K miles on the new gears.
