We have an 18 acres property in the mountains in NM and besides our ATV with small trailer, tractor and mini excavator we felt like we needed a utility vehicle for work around the property. We also wanted a SXS to have fun around the property and adjacent BLM land. After looking at several brands we liked the Polaris Ranger 570 and the Kawasaki Mule SX SC but were turned off by the ridiculous fees some dealers tack on top of the MSRP. I understand fright and a reasonable setup fee. The quotes we got came to about $2,500 over MSRP. Freight and setup added close to $1,500 but an additional $1,000 for documentary fees, registration and some bogus fuel surcharge, sorry but no. I passed on the Polaris and Kawi. I may regret not buying a machine with a good reliability record like the Kawasaki but am also also saving $2,800. We ended up buying an Axis X550 (Hisun) from Lowe's and out the door with taxes and a $1,000 military/veterans discount it came to $9,735. This thing is street legal in my town. It comes with windshield, roof, two 10" screens on the dash, Apple Carplay, JBL speakers, horn, LED headlights and taillights, turn signals and a winch. It can tow 1,500lbs and carry 600lbs in the dump bed. It is a 3 passenger UTV. I checked everything and this machine is nice and fit and finish is actually pretty great. Time will tell how it holds up. If the machine gives a fault code the info system has a library with all the codes. Pretty cool! Pardon the messy background. We are doing home additions and the builders leave stuff everywhere.

The plastic top comes off. Not sure what a regear entails on this machine. Bigger tires would be cool.

Not sure if the MPG I got from this tank when we picked up the UTV is good or bad. Going to the store from our house is 75 miles away. The empty flat bed trailer is 2,000lbs. There are some hills at the beginning and the rest 60 mils is mostly flat. Coming back with the UTV loaded (3,740lbs combined weight) we encountered high winds. The last 15 miles were mostly up hill in third gear. Total miles tracked 150 plus 46 before the trip. The tank averaged 12.6 MPG hand calculated. For disclosure I am running 35" Trail Hogs and 25 lbs. wheels.

These SxS are getting out of control. They're now the same size, or in some cases, larger than a TJ. But they do ride better. Are you going to replace that TJ with this Axis?

It's actually a YJ. No plans on getting rid of my YJ. Way too much money in it. I like going into town and riding around in it. Looking at the UTV next to the YJ, the UTV looks higher and almost the same size.

I am conflicted on UTV/SxS's. They are definitely cool. But, IMO they are loud, stinky, and the only people in my area who tend to use them are the kind that dont care about anyone else and destroy roads and tear up meadows - causing more road closures ie ruining the fun of responsible people. I rented one in Cooke City to take my dad to the mines since they are so soft riding and that sucker was so fast - got up to 80 in probably a quarter of the time my Gladiator does. It is pretty impressive. I wish they could at least quiet them down.

We bought ours mainly for work around the property. It's only 36HP so I won't be winning any races. I tell you, this thing is effing loud. I'm already looking to pack the muffler and add sound deadening to the back wall and around and under the seat. In Ruidoso it is street legal so we may get it registered for off and on road. I don't believe in tearing up trails. I prefer to go slow and leisurely. I agree with you on the people that do.

@MudderNuker where do you service it if/when it breaks?
In my garage. Well our second metal garage that will be installed in about a month. The other garage is full of crap, tools, furniture and other belongings that we brought from our other house. We owned both houses at the same time and both were fully furnished. Most maintenance and repairs I can do myself. It's a hassle to load up and take to a dealer or service facility. If something breaks I guess I'll take it to the nearest dealer. After I get the car lift in planning on doing most of my vehicle work myself. I'm retired so I have plenty of time. The new garage should be identical to the image.
