I was wanting to go there but from I am reading and seeing in all the above posts I don't think my
Gladiator with 33 inch tires will do very good. Beautiful area.

You can do 90% of the trails there with a stock Jeep, no lockers with 33's.

I am definitely going to make the trip. Thank you for the responses.
You won’t regret it. Friends of mine did Engineer pass with me last July, all the way from Ouray to Lake City. Their vehicle was a stock, non Trd 4-runner, 32” all season minivan tires, no lockers, no skids, and a big roof top tent adding weight. The driver had never off roaded. She did amazing. No damage to the 4Runner whatsoever. They’re coming back this year with the same vehicle for a purposely planed wheeling trip.

Engineer Pass (from Silverton/Animas Forks), Ophir Pass, and Cinnamon Pass are definitely doable in pretty much any vehicle with AWD/4WD and enough clearance. Everything else will vary but with your truck Black Bear on a careful line if it's open is possible. Imogene should be no problem for the most part either, it's all about choosing the right lines.

Unfortunately Imogene, Black Bear, and Ophir are all closed and they are all my bucket list trails. Hopefully one reopens while we are there

Mid July. Wet late winter. Those are high elevation trails all on the Western slope of that valley. Mid July for probably all but Black Bear if it opens at all. You can do probably all on the East side to the top, but that's the easy side of each.

That's the plan, there's thunderstorms the next two days so we will stick to easy roads (1-3 of 10 difficulty) and turn back if the weather gets too nasty. Later in the week we will try some of the moderate trails when the risk is lower.

If anyone is in the Holy Cross area, I’m here until at least Thursday. Would love to to do the trail if anyone is interested.

Always a good plan especially when weather turns quickly. Hopefully you're going with another vehicle.

We are rolling solo this time, but there's lots of people in town for the 4th.

We already stopped to help some motorcyclists broken down on the way in on Colorado 90. We couldn't get the bike running but we filled their waters while they waited for a tow and moved gear to the other bikes in the group.

Didn't realize you guys were already there. Yep, supposed to come down hard the next couple days, stay safe out there.
