The Maxxis tires did pretty good. I have since swapped to the Baja boss m/t.
I was considering the bajas too. How is the sound from both? Pretty loud? Are they close to 40” mounted? I’ve been on 38” Patagonias and they are pretty quiet but now I want 40s hard to find much info.

I would say they both have a hum to them. Nothing overly loud. I’ve had some older mud tires that were ridiculously loud. Neither of these were like that. With doors off I can still listen to radio without cranking it up. I don’t think either run true 40”. Id say closer to 38.5 to 39” range. Coming from a 37 you can definitely tell they are a lot bigger.

40's look amazing! I'm running 35s in my neck of the woods which is all hills at high elevation and I get around 15 MPG, I can only imagine what 40s get.

Thanks for the responses everyone. I think I am going to go with the Fuel Slayer's in Matte Gunmetal, -38mm offset.

Thank you, greatly appreciate the offer. Custom Offsets had them on sale for $219.28 per wheel and the local Discount Tire matched the price.

Got them installed today, fits great, no rubbing on full lock in either direction.

For folks that find this thread in the future, the wheels are Fuel Slayer 17x9, -38mm offset / 3.5" backspacing. The tires are Cooper Discoverer STT Pro's in 40x13.50x17. The JT is an Overland, with the narrow axles (non-Rubicon/Mojave axles).

Thanks! I am actually really happy with the wheels. I didn't love the Fuel Zephyr's that were on it, and given the limited wheel choice at -38mm offset I'm glad I went with the Slayers in Gunmetal.

I’ll take some more tomorrow that show it better. I snapped those 2 when I got back from the shop. I can tell you the poke looks better with these wheels (tires too of course) than it looked with the Zephyrs.
