Hey guys I'm trying to figure out if my jeep gladiator Rubicon will be able to support 2020 Road glide Special hauling it in truck bed to biketoberfest in Daytona. Reason why I'm not trailering it, I need to pick up jet ski once there. Is tailgate strong enough? Thanks gents!

Yes the tailgate will hold, but having the weight that far back is going to mess with your center of gravity so it'll drive with the nose pointed up a little. That will get worse with the jet ski and the handling will be poor if you hit any rain/wind.

Good luck! and I hope you make it home safe!

I'd like to know how you plan to get the bike up there in the first place. I have a few bikes and have thought of putting one in the bed for transportation but how in the world to get it up there since the tailgate is up so darn high and a ramp would be at a very steep angle!

When I had a Dodge 2500, I used the ramps at the end of Publix, Winn-Dixie, or Walmart loading docs with a piece of rug under the tailgate so the paint didn't scratch.

More misery for you, I don't know that you can pull a PWC trailer with the tailgate down.
I don't know if there's a piece of a PWC trailer that sticks up higher, but I've towed a utility trailer with a walk-behind mower in the bed with the tailgate down.

Please send a pic once you get it in the bed, it would be interesting to see how close the back tire is to the end of the tailgate.

Also, my tailgate will clear the jack on the front of my cargo trailer so you might be Ok.

I’m not sure it’ll fit. The bed is only 5’, the tailgate maybe another 2’. so, around 85”. Your bike is probably around 100” in length.

I just sold a Road Glide Special. The back wheel will be on the tailgate. I wouldn’t even put it in my F150 with the 5.5’ bed. You’d want something under the back tire that distributes the balance of the 850lbs into the bed.

A 2x10 or 2x12 works well for weight distribution when hauling bikes. It can even buy you a couple of inches past the end of the tailgate as long as the rear tire is anchored in a way that it can't jump off sideways in transit.
