It wasn't that bad for normal driving, the cable shifting was completely fine in my experience. The light flywheel and taller-than-necessary diff gearing made it worse than it should've been (relatively easy to stall for something with a really short 1st gear). Is it really that bad? I knew there were some issues, but didn't follow it. Too bad they didn't just use the MT from the JK/LJ.
Did they move to a shifter with cable instead of direct connection due to impact reasons, or did people whine about shifter vibration?
I guess the more I think about it, I agree that the transmission / clutch is too weak in that it limits the tow rating, so maybe it was bad enough it should've been done correctly or not at all.
For something so simple and proven as a manual transmission with a hydraulic clutch, it shouldn't be difficult to make right.
Jeep half-assed it so they could justify getting rid of it and forcing everyone into an auto.
I personally see the writing on the wall for the Gladiator being on the way out soon, but for the sake of you guys that prefer the auto's, I hope that's not the case.
