Is it really that bad? I knew there were some issues, but didn't follow it. Too bad they didn't just use the MT from the JK/LJ.

Did they move to a shifter with cable instead of direct connection due to impact reasons, or did people whine about shifter vibration?
It wasn't that bad for normal driving, the cable shifting was completely fine in my experience. The light flywheel and taller-than-necessary diff gearing made it worse than it should've been (relatively easy to stall for something with a really short 1st gear).

I guess the more I think about it, I agree that the transmission / clutch is too weak in that it limits the tow rating, so maybe it was bad enough it should've been done correctly or not at all.

For something so simple and proven as a manual transmission with a hydraulic clutch, it shouldn't be difficult to make right.

Jeep half-assed it so they could justify getting rid of it and forcing everyone into an auto.

I personally see the writing on the wall for the Gladiator being on the way out soon, but for the sake of you guys that prefer the auto's, I hope that's not the case.

Can't Wait! If it's anything like the JLU, I'll be able to wave at them all shiny and new parked there on the dealer lot for months.

In all seriousness, I do love electric for the performance, but a short electric range hybrid is kind of a limp noodle IMO. I'd need an electric range of 80-100mi to cover my daily driving to even get close to justifying the expense. I think REEVs are where it's at.
I agree with you about REEV's (had to look up the term). You wouldn't happen to be an electrical engineer, would ya?

Nah, I'm a software guy, I only dabble with the physical world.

I'm a mechanical designer, so yeah, I get that.

For this reason I've been very happy with the wife's Volt. They did a good job with that car.

Ramcharger has a ton of potential if the price is right. I’m a little concerned that basically packaging a full EV plus a full conventional gas power plant will be too expensive. I also know there is stuff that can be cut due to the unique powertrain and hopefully that will balance out the far larger battery versus the already expensive 4xe platform.

4xe range is very marginal for me. I drive a lot so getting 50+mpg instead of 17 would be huge. But at 20 miles of range it just doesn’t help me much. Stellantis always points out the average driver only drives 20 miles or less each way, which is true, but someone with a commute that short also doesn’t save much on fuel anyways.

A 75-100 miles PHEV would be a buy for me, as would a full EV Gladiator. I’d pay $75k after rebate for a 200mile range 400+ hp EV Gladiator and be happy to do it because it’d pay for itself in gas savings and give me a lot more performance. But I’m a pretty unique truck buyer putting so many miles on the truck without needing the size of a half ton.

I like manual transmissions. The lack of a granny low first gear and the fact that it wasn't an option behind the diesel kept me away.

It seems myopic to me. Like someone heard that enthusiasts like shifting gears but didn't think that they'd want to do truck things with it?

Had a great time tearing through mountain switchbacks with the 6-speed manual. 55MPH speed limit with 15-20MPH curves. What a blast.
Did that with the auto in manual mode. Lots of fun.

My 2017 JKU was manual trans, and I specifically bought it because it was the only manual on the lot, really loved it. That being said, the 8 speed trans is better in every way, the 6 speed just can't compete today.

I know my trade was shit because of the surplus of 2023s early this year and the absurd deals they were doing to get rid of them. They're struggling to sell already.
Yeah, I'm not going to lie, that 25% off MSRP got me into a Rubicon EcoDiesel at a good price!

You guys aren't picking up what I'm putting down lol, and I need to keep my job for 5-6 more years, so I'll just leave it at, if the GMC and Chevy can be the same, so could two trucks under another corporate umbrella.
I understand what you're saying, but Ram's midsized truck won't be on the same platform at the Gladiator, right?

I can't remember all the details, but my insider told me that a Ram midsize pickup is coming, but it will be on the STLA large platform, which I believe is planned for the plant in Belvedere, IL. Keep in mind, this is information from 6 months ago, so I don't know if there's been any changes. At that time, they said it would be a 2026 model.

I'd imagine the front clip would be rough to adapt from SFA to IFS. Makes a lot more sense to do what Toyota and Nissan are doing and downsize the full-size platform.

It's probably not that hard, you can do it with aftermarket parts. This was spotted at EJS:
