The Leaf gets about 200 miles on a charge. That's pretty decent range.
That's a car, or a station wagon at best... and it's a Ford. Not exactly apples to apples. And to get the all wheel drive mach-e you need at least the GT... which starts at $55k. Can't really cross shop just yet as the details aren't available for the recon, but assuming that $60k is an all wheel drive version it's basically priced the same as the mach-e anyway.
The base leaf is only rated at 149 miles, no that's not good range. At least the mach-e is 290-320 miles. For something like a recon that is supposed to be off road worthy I'd want at least that.

2028 scout...est base price $60k? Add 3 more years of inflation and don't be surprised when it makes the recon look affordable. Keep holding your breath for that $30k off road EV that will never come. Everyone's sales are in the toilet unless you have an econobox focus, happens with high inflation and high interest rates. Hyundai-Kia passed Stellantis is sales, they must be better value? Or they are just cheap and you get what you pay for.
Looks like you can get a Premium Mach-E with AWD starting at $49k.

No, not an off roader. I guess I'm comparing them because I figure the Recons won't be taken off road either. But you have a point.
At this point it is a guess, but the recon was marketed as off road worthy so I assume it will come awd base. Not saying I like it, but the fact is any vehicle worth owning these days is $50k. Even the Hyundai EV6 performance is $50k. It's not different than everyone claiming the JL or JT are overpriced. Look at the competition. They are all the same. 4runner, bronco, Colorado, ranger...add decent options and you're pushing closer to $60k. Look at a defender or a grenadier and you're pushing $70k or more. Stellantis isn't any more over priced than it's competition, everything's overpriced these days.

Your originated post of $35-40k and your "I'll wait for the scout" comment? The scout will cost more than the recon and nowhere near that $35-40k number. The fact is, this type of vehicle cannot be had in that range period.
