I own a 2020 Gladiator and it’s a manual transmission. This is the third manual Jeep I’ve owned in the past 25 years. I cannot STAND the push start. It’s inconvenient, annoying, and makes NO sense to have in a manual.
I have been wanting to convert this since the day I bought it. I had my truck built during the pandemic because there’s hardly anyone in the market for it. This is one of few complaints I have for my Jeep.

Has anyone here successfully converted their ignition from push to turn? Any advice and guidance would be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much for your wisdom and support!

Your best bet, ask Benny @AllMoparParts.com if there are even parts available to do this.

It probably would be a fairly easy wiring job. The antenna for the fob will still sense the fob so that shouldn't be an issue.

There is a long ass thread from early '22? that discusses this. The consensus was no. It can't be done.

That's one thing I miss from the TJ. Put it in gear and crank to start. Not good for the starter, but necessary in some off road conditions. Much like comparing an E-bike to a real bike, automatic to manual.

How in the world is it inconvenient? You press a button. That’s it.
How about being able to select "accessory" without three pushes, having to start the stupid thing before getting to "accessory"?. I too would prefer to make a half key turn to the accessory position. I would like the positive control of the start and the snap back to the ignition/run detent that a keyed ignition offers. Who knows what the stupid push button is really doing. A keyed ignition with detents would make my day, too.

I never destroyed my key by getting it wet. Oh wait, that is my dislike of having to have a stupid fob to get the push button to work. Ugh.

It isn't the push button that bothers me .. its having to touch the brake to get it to start. But essentially as we know touching the brake makes it skip accessory and jump straight to start.
Okay so let me tell you one thing I love the push button for. I MAY catch some flack for this.. but I was climbing a plus 20% grade the other day and I stalled the motor..and it's a not a standard I mean this was a super step grade with high water breaks in it that required one wheel diagnal drop offs to cross and Im lifted and on 35's .. I was in too high of a gear on the manual side ( 3rd I think ) and trying to ease over the water break and I will be darned if I didn't stall it . All I had to do was touch the break slap the sticn in neutral and hit that button pop it back in drive and smash the fuel. Up over it I went . Now to perform the same maneuver in a standard is a more difficult proposition. It was super quick . In the situation I was in a turn key is harder to articulate. I also didn't have to be super accurate finding the key just punch the dash with 3 fingers and one of the 3 hit the button and she fired off.

Inconvenient?

I guess you hate carrying around a key fob?

Gotta say, have had push start in my last couple manuals, never found it to be an issue or hinderance.

Auto start stop in a manual trans, now that infuriates me. Wtf Jeep. I just hit that button and traction control on startup, but what a dumb EPA work around to throw on a manual trans vehicle.

Push button start, best thing that ever happened to vehicles. Need to run something when the engine isn't started? Auxiliary switching products abound.

Key ignitions inevitably fail. Sometimes keys get broke off in them, either. due to the key being worn down or someone/something hits the "handle" of the key. Easier to do I think with a FOB as part of the key.

Anyway, my preference is the faster to use, push the button with foot on brake than fumbling with a key or keys to get out a pocket or fish out from between the seat & console or scratch up the dash or steering column with the key sometimes missing the mark once in awhile.

Now if I could only buy a Gladiator or Wrangler without all of the safety electronics unless I or the next owner wanted to add them as modular plugins, THAT would make me happy. Bring the cost of these JEEP's down so they can truly return to being an off-road vehicle first, on pavement without creature comforts 2nd (sorry SUV pavement fans), and computers deciding how to keep me safe. As the paper bag blows across the road and the system decides to brake for collision. Piling up cars behind. Nearly happened on a friends different brand vehicle which it should not have done but seems it did. Scary to think about the possibilities anyway.

Wishing my 2008 Wrangler with zero powertrain issues, had a late model factory integrated push button start. But not with engine shut down /restarts at stops.
