First post - sorry if this is the wrong spot.

Spicer has a deal right now on crate axles. D44/D60 for $9649. Jeep Gladiator JT 5.38 Gear Ratio Bundle: Ultimate Dana 44™ AdvanTEK® Front ELD (10047719) + Semi-Float Ultimate Dana 60™ Rear ELD (SF-L60JT538E-69)

That's the gears you want up to 5.38s, chromo axle shafts, diff cover and an electric locker - selling the stock D44's ... seems like a good deal if the stock axles can be sold for a good price?

What do you think stock frt/rr Dana 44's would go for? $4k - $5K? am I way off base?

I’m just planning right now, haven’t bought the Gladiator yet. Hopefully it’s a Rubicon so - wide track, correct?

Rubicon axles with lockers, $3k to maybe $3,500 for the pair.

If they are not Rubicon axles, maybe $1k for the pair if you can sell them.
bummer - I remember helping a friend look for a replacement front Dana 44 for his Jeep in 2023 and $3500 was pretty average around here.

If they are brand new take offs you might see $4k, but I think everyone thinking about buying axles also sees the deals like you're talking about. Would you pay more than half the price of a 60/44 full of upgraded parts and the gears of your choice for stock 44s with 4.10s and plastic lined ball joints knowing you'll spend the difference just for the regear and ball joint upgrade... and still just have stock 44 shafts, knuckles, etc?

The kicker here is the Dana set is D44 front which you’d already have and a rear 60 isemi float and that will be in some ways weaker than the full floater 44 in a JK Rubi. Only way to do an axle swap out is for D60/D60 full floater 8 lug. Lot more expensive yea but worth the aggravation and a real step up.

What are you trying to do? What tire size are you planning. Pretty good evidence that factory axles hold up reasonably well to 37” tires on and off road. There are those with 38,39,even 40s but as you go bigger, you increase the stress on drivelines.

Also, don’t forget driveshafts in your costs estimates. If you go full float and 8 lug you’ll need new wheels. Good luck!

There's 0 way that the full float 44 in the JL rubicon is stronger than the semi float 60. Weaker housing, weaker tubes, weaker brackets, weaker ring and pinion, weaker shafts, weaker locker that is known to fail under hard use with big tires. Is the ultimate 44/ semi-float 60 on the level of full float 60s? Nope, but they are both significantly stronger than the stock JL/JT offerings in every way.

I think the 44, Dana is selling as s special with the 60 is their Ultimate 44 which is better and stronger then the 44s in the Rubicon now. Correct me if I am wrong. I have been thinking about buying jst the Ultimate 44 with e lockers and that was running $5200. This is a good special they have now withe 60 rear all for 10K. Especially for any one with non-Rubicon set up now. Open to opinions....

to me it only makes sense if you don’t have a Rubicon.

40’s is the plan.
I’m not against staying with the D44’s but the Spicer 44/60 combo is better in my perspective.
And selling the stock axles, even if for only $2500-$3000 helps.

One of my local shops swears by the stock D44s. They swapped them into their shop jeep, installed RCV shafts and few other upgrades and are running mickey thompson 43x14.50R17 with no issues.
