My thoughts exactly. I had no problem insuring my old Nova. At the same time I don’t want to think about what they’d do to replace the parts. Since I’m the builder I’d assume they would just pay me for the damages and say handle my business. My bigger concern with its insurance is I determined the value. So if it gets stolen, burns down, totaled, etc they write me a check for what I told them it was worth.
Yes end of day, they hand you a check, you hand them the keys when it's broken. You can negotiate to buy back the busted car for a portion of the check they gave you. You then assume responsibility at your cost to fix it or turn it into lawn art.

Someone hit my 66 C10 while it was parked on the street and Hagerty sent an adjuster out to inspect it. She really knew her stuff and crawled all over and under the truck, measuring panel gaps, etc. Then she told me to take it to custom shops for quotes. Her estimate was within $100 of theirs, and Hagerty just gave me a check. Hagerty went after the insurance of the person who hit me, and my rate never changed.

Good to know! I haven’t had to make any claims with Hagerty yet. Considering my car has driven 11 miles in 2 years, it might be a while before I need them 😂

Ram had the diesel for nearly 10 years. VM made something like 100k ecodiesel engines for the US market. And it's not like it was some one-off engine made up of exclusive parts, it's made with parts that are shared with other engines.

Has there ever been a car that is unrepairable due to parts availability within 10-15 years?
I came from a 2022 ZR2 Colorado and you can no longer order the rear e locker. Supposed to be support for ten years from an OEM but I guess not always.

Isn't it just an Eaton e locker?

That is a old wives tale and internet myth. There is no law requiring any maker to support or make parts past discontinuation. Their only obligation is for warranty and when push comes to shove, they can buy you out of your vehicle if it comes to it.

No.. but I'm sure they have an AI driven platform written by an unpaid intern reading this thread as we speak on it as a reason to raise rates that people will buy.
