I have a ‘21 Willys that has running boards (actually a long pipe with steps) that I use every day. I’m 6’2” stock tires, no lift. Even with the step wife has issues getting in. We’re both in our early 70’s. Ours don’t look like an afterthought.
Good point.

Rockslide engineering.
Automated slider/step. great product for folks who are vertically challenged and those with lifted rigs.
Yep. The best of both worlds.

This is the second Jeep I have had RSE steps sliders on. Highly recommend them. Get the armor if goign off road. The extra plate helps a lot.

I've had Amp Research steps on my 2016 JKU (came on it already installed), 2023 Bronco and now my Gladiator. With a 3 1/2 inch left and 37's I do use them but they were honestly for my mother-in-law (4' 11") and two daughters around 5'4". My two sons laugh at the steps, but they do use them even though they are 6'2".

My 2013 has the regular steps that came on the Sahara as my son drives that and really doesn't use them as it does have 2 1/2 inch left and 35's.

When I bought my '21 Rubicon in '23 it had no steps.
I added an M.O.R.E. Hide-a-Step
to help my 75-year old, overweight self get in.
Now 77 and more overweight
I broke down and bought some Tyger fat old man steps.

The Hide-a-Step was a good compromise
for a person who wants to rock crawl
and still have a step for a passenger.
It tucks in under the factory rock slider
and can be removed by pulling a couple of pins
for serious rock crawling that might scrape it off.

Big RokBlokz front mud flaps have a cut out
that fits around the factory rock sliders.
Thumbscrews allow them to be quickly removed
for serious rock crawling.
The big mud flaps keep the hinges, back fenders,
sides and door handles neat and clean.

My Hide-a-Step and RokBlokz
are for sale here on the forum.
Red goes with anything.

So no in between with you? Either off-road or mall crawl? I'm 70 years old (almost) with a bad back! If I was going to off road, it wouldn't be in a new shiny Jeep. But I'm past those days now. I will run the back roads with it, get it wet, muddy, dusty, maybe a little mild off-road if it becomes necessary. I bought it because it is easy to flat tow behind a RV and I was tired of spending time in Colorado with only a little Smart car to drive. I've made several trips out there with a ATV and rented a Jeep a few times when the wife was along. I probably won't do Black Bear or similar, I'll have some fun with it though, even in stock (mall crawl) trim.

You Be well. Jeep on also!
I'm glad someone else was thinking the same thing about other uses for the Jeep other than doing the Rubicon/Moab stuff or mall crawling. There is a territory in between those extremes. I'm just about your age and have had 8 Jeeps that I can remember (my first new Jeep was just after getting out of high school, a '75 J-10 pickup).

Anyway, I bought a '24 Rubicon a couple of months ago due mainly to the price (like 32% off MSRP). It is not a mall crawler nor do I plan on climbing rocks with it. Sorry, but the largest rocks here in South Florida / Keys are found at Home Depot to decorate your garden. I do get on some trails, especially in the Everglades. Here we are talking mud, mud and more mud, especially in the rainy season. The first thing I did with the Rubicon was take the rock rails off and put on the OE side steps. Yes, it is easier to get in, especially for my wife. Then I purchased a winch (still waiting to install it since the winch plate is backordered). I can also tow my boat and trailer (about 6k lbs.) from my home to the marina (5 miles) or to the mechanic (10 miles) without any problems.

So as you mention, the Jeep usage thing is not a black or white issue ... there are a lot of shades of gray in between on how Jeeps are used. Just because you don't climb rocks doesn't mean you sit when you pee (sorry women, nothing personal).

We are about a month away from having our NXTGEN Cross Terrain steps, ready for the Gladiator.

They are the strongest most functional drop down step for the factory rails.

Setting up our Patent Pending clamping system takes a little bit of time for the first install, but then it’s just a couple of quick screws per step to take the step off and regain full clearance when you hit the trails.

You can see more on our website here: https://nxtgenautomotive.com/xterrain-steps-for-wrangler-gladiator-factory-rock-slider-rails

These mount WITH or without rock sliders and are pretty beefy.

they are about 350$
I have them and they work as steps pretty nicely if needed.
install tip: if you have sliders you only need the J shaped mounts. You’ll figure it out because the other odd supports do not line up.

I have the same set-up and with the Mopar lift, it comes in handy, and my wife appreciates it.

A set of para-cord roll bar grab handles are good over each door. There's already a grab bar at the windshield. I worked out a second set of para-cord grab handles in the back for the nieces......they didn't want to grab the sleeve for the door wires, even though I told them it was fine.

Those hang down further than my OEM tubular side steps.

That being said, I plan to replace them with something stronger one day, but they’ve been really strong and taken some abuse and I’d rather not have ones that hang down like what you pictured.
I like the steps in the link I posted, but a full oem running board might be the best answer.

The steps I posted the link to? Yeah they are pretty pricey. I'm hunting oem running boards on Marketplace. Found some but so far too far away from me.
