Actually I went out to Cleghorn Road (about 50 miles away) and when I returned I noticed my Altimeter was reading 0 feet at my home. It should read about 100 feet (80 to 120 on my JKU).
It was fine when I left in the morning? I don’t know if it performed the update as I haven’t looked. This morning it is still reading -47 feet??
It also lost connection to my phone for playing music (said my phone was connected as a tablet) but has since healed and is playing music just fine.

-47 is what mine has been reading for the past week or so at home, since the upgrade. It used to be about +53 feet, which matches closely to other GPS I have.

I picked-up my new 2024 about the 1st of March.. Once home I was giving it a good interior familiarization .. and I noticed the SCREEN went thru a "self-induced" type of reboot. I didn't know what it was doing, but this may explain what was happening. I ASSUMED it was orienting the details to my new ownership. Like the "hello" and I did get the "trail maps" loaded but, I've not checked it out yet. I didn't know it was temporary? I've begun the "BUILD" on my new sweetheart!
I enjoy the tech stuff I read here. Thanks for the notice!!
Carmine, Here's one for you..

Okay, so I finally dug into my UConnect and see my version is apparently pretty old
FCA-MY24.U29.44.PROD
Is it supposed to update automatically?

I have more digging to do. Uhh, I’ll get to it. I’m in no hurry. My big concerns are getting my first oil change. Along with a couple questions there… I had a piece of yellow electrical tape fall from under the dash a while ago, then noticed another piece hanging down. I can’t imagine the factory using yellow electrical tape, soooo? Tracker? Remote Shutdown (if those are a thing)? I haven’t looked as I’ve been fairly sick this week.
Then I have the Altimeter reading below Sea Level when it was accurate the first month.

There are many threads on GPS devices found in vehicles.
They are not for remote shutdown, they are for dealer upselling theft tracking and recovery services. Most of the time all the connect to is power and ground via the OBD port.
There was a thread on it just a day or two ago, as well as threads dating back 4+ years. ( I started one of them when I found the first GPS device under my first Gladiator)
Shouldn't take long to find 2 or 3 such threads on this, some pretty lengthy with foil hats and Mulder and Scully investigating.

Thank you. I figured it was a tracking device. I’ll look under the dash and if it’s there I’ll chew on the dealer. I owe $300 on the truck. They asked me to let financing last 3 months so title information has a chance to find the proper trail to me through the issuance and financing.

It's not that sort of tracking. It's installed so that when you buy a vehicle, they can sell you a service, at an added cost, of course, that will help track and recover your vehicle if it's stolen.

Either way I’d like extra electronics removed.

Well, my build is April of 2024. So it sat in the California sun for at least last summer baking that glue (one reason I don’t like electrical tape). It’s no surprise that the glue on it has started melting and the tape is dropping out of my dash.
I never saw that crap used in the assembly process before. I thought the factory knew better. Electrical tape is trash as far as I’m concerned. Use 3M self bonding tape to hold stuff. It becomes one piece after just a few minutes.

Then they have certainly done a lot of fixing in the last few years. When I worked for the state - they had a lot of iPhones assigned to counselors in remote offices. I can't count the number of iPhones that were either bricked or had really screwy issues after updates. In fact, for a year or two it was so bad we did what we could to ensure no phone got an update right away. It reminded me of Microsoft updates for a while - avoid until everyone else has found all of the bugs.

BTW - I may still have a copy of DOS 3.2 here somewhere.
That’s super weird unless the iPhones are at the bottom of the upgrade ladder. Then hardware makes some theoretically compatible software slow and buggy. I run a county government IT dept and that’s been typical. Out of 500ish phones the oldest 5% are 95% of the problem. On a whole consolidation on the IOS platform lowered our ticket load dramatically. That’s just us though I’ve certainly read a lot of horror stories but havent known another shop personally that’s experienced that. I have enjoyed the biggerr faster system in my 24 Mojave, at least so far, it’s only at 1500 miles so plenty of time left to implode :)
