So what happens if you don't plug door harness back in?

I mean I guess I could just try it, but curious as to anyone's experiences.

I have a Sport with no power locks, windows, etc....totally stripped besides Max Tow (gotta capitalize that right?). I've heard all about pin damage and whatnot from repeated door removal - so if I have nothing to power in the doors, what happens? Maybe would disable interior / bed lights? I'd be fine with it disabling the three beeps.

What comes to mind :
  • Any auto on lights at door open
  • No 1min radio power after turn off (absolutely minor but it annoys me when I have doors off, park, and go to hit something on CarPlay and it's off)
  • Alarm?
  • the "not in park" warning if door is open, you are not buckled, and you lift off your seat
  • blind spot monitoring (maybe you have this based on year, I think it's become a required standard?)
  • side airbags....? Is there anything in the door for these...?

The pin damage is annoying, I've done it when I first took them off but not since. Easy fix. If you release the connection point from its clip against the truck it makes it much easier to line up straight and still pushes into place.

The auto lights and "not in park" would be an issue. My 2023 doesn't have an alarm, side airbags or blind spot. I'll give it a shot this weekend when it's out of the garage again and see what happens.

I would think everything behaves just like the door is off. As far as truck computer knows, there is no door. No different than tube doors or aftermarket half doors, etc
This ^. Apply some dielectric grease to the door side connector help too

  • Any auto on lights at door open Same as Doors off
  • No 1min radio power after turn off Same as Doors off
  • Alarm? Same as Doors off Still goes off if you touch any buttons in the vehicle
  • the "not in park" warning if door is open, you are not buckled, and you lift off your seat Same as Doors off this is a plus in my booK especialy if towing and opening door to look back with a trailer ( I used tazer to remove this feature
  • blind spot monitoring (maybe you have this based on year, I think it's become a required standard?) Not on a 2023
  • side airbags....? Is there anything in the door for these...? Not on a 2023
Also on more optioned Jeeps Power Door locks and mirrors will not work but I almost never lock mine anyway
I have Dual door group (full and half doors)
I don't always plug in my half doors in summer, have them off in the day and put them on at night in case it rains / keep critters out.

Iā€˜ve only had the jeep for a year now…and we’ve taken the doors off about 6x last summer. I’ll have to look at applying dielectric grease on the door side (as mentioned).

So, if & when youā€˜ve predicted to have pin damage… What part usually gets damaged (door side or truck side)? What type of repair is it?
<thinking out loud here>. Is it as easy as straightening the pin? Or as difficult as pulling the individual wires out and soldering on a new blade? (Hubby makes circuit boards and has awesome soldering skills). Or as bad as having to buy a complete harnass (of sorts)?

I know, I know…I could search… this is just ’conversation’……THanks!

it's the vehicle side. Plugging the door in and not aligning 100% can push a pin off center and cause it to not seat correctly. Leads to windows not working or locks, or detecting the door , the power mirror, whatever pin is bent.

unless you've manage to completely destroy the pin with excessive force it's as easy as using needle-nose to adjust it back.

I believe there has been a few conversations and posts about replacing with a less risky connection over the years but I don't remember seeing anyone actually do it.
