I’ve been told multiple times that a loaner wasn’t available and still managed to get a loaner. Sometimes the dealership’s hands are truly tied but the big corporation they’re selling for can shell out the money for a loaner. Call, be civil, make it clear you can’t get to work/etc and that they’re failure is the direct cause, don’t take no for an answer and you will eventually get high enough in the chain to get someone who will call the dealer and set up the rental.

Once you’re in a rental your parts will arrive way faster than any previous estimate.

Had this happen with an air bag replacement, long block replacement, and I think another air bag replacement (none of this on my JT for reference).

Uchh, that would be a nightmare scenario.
The dealer did tell me though that there are metal remnants from the pinion gears so just a bearing replacement would not suffice.

Does that D60 still use the same bad bearing?
Dana 60 came from East Coast Gear and supply NOT Jeep. I have had more than a few axles built by them and very satisfied with their work and product. A semi float will use the same size wheels you have now, you can use the same brake rotors and calipers as well. Full up delivered with a E-locker was $6500.

Dealer..... anything starts to grind up bearing or pinion you get metal in the diff. Grinding is done with the bad bearing and the gear set. Once the bearing goes the contact patch for the gears goes out as well. Metal shavings in the electronic locker as well. It is a mess when these things eat a bearing.... Cheap parts and dealer parts swappers. Finding a dealer that will actually do gears is a rarity.

I was on track to buy a set of Currie D60s and get ride of the crap advantec axles, until the executive branch started tearing into the federal workforce.... need to save the pennies until the dust settles.

About how many hours would I expect/what would I look to pay to have the rear pinion bearing replaced with the Timken unit after they warranty replace the whole axle?
They would not swap them during install as nice as that would be.
So that I don't have this problem again down the road.
About 5 hours to replace the pinion bearing.

ETA for replacement parts (new rear axle) now saying next week.
Will be repaired to stock under warranty and not feel good about it for long term, but not super excited to spend $1000 on labor and $60 on parts to take it back apart again and put in the better bearing rn. Definitely feeling conflicted but if they're all bad then everybody will have to replace a rear axle at some point, so either they can't be or there will be a recall or class action suit.

Tens of thousands of these trucks out there and this is the first time I've heard of this, on this forum even where all the bad things pop up, I think you'll be fine.

About 5 hours to replace the pinion bearing.
Seriously? That long? I did a whole "kit" in a limited slip, including rebuilding the clutch pack, new carrier and pinion bearings and so on in that time. Granted it wasn't one of these Dana beasts, and it was out of the vehicle and brought to my shop, but still..........

They are not all bad. Sure the design is not the greatest but it really is not a highly reported issue even with the Wranglers that have been running the same design since 2018.

Me personally, I would not be running out getting the bearing changed on a full axle warranty swap.

I might be a little on the high side.

Maybe someone here can lookup labor rates.

At least one of those cases, an "axle shop" doing the work said the lube wasn't up to snuff.

Even here on the forums where people are drawn like moths to a light, to complaints of failures, you can count on one hand - heck, I bet my wife could count on her hands LOL (and yeah, she'd even say that)

I know what I meant. 😆

How many hours in the book to replace a rear pinion bearing on an Advantek Dana 44.

I'm thinking it is around 5 hours, but if someone can look this up and confirm, that would be great.

I wonder how many that failed were on the factory service fill? Being on my 4th Gladiator, every one of the rear diffs took a 1/2 qt. more fluid until it dribbled out the fill port hole.

Yeah, but he didn't, when you clearly stated 5 HOURS.
You didn't stutter :like:
They must not have read your post.
